Multi-Family Residence gets Roof Replacement in Danbury, CT

This Danbury rental home had seen better days and was in need of a replacement after recent wind storms. We ripped out the old shingles and decking, and replaced them with Owens Corning shingles in Onyx Black. The location now looks much more inviting to potential residents, and the owner won't have to worry about the leaking roof any more!

The shingles on this home were starting to curl and shrink due to old age and this caused water to seep in through the gaps. Due to the water, there was also algae and moss growing on the roof.

The first step to fixing this is removing the old shingles and taking a look at the decking layer to see if it needs to be replaced. Fortunately and surprisingly, there were no rotting plywood sheets so repairs were minimal. Next, we laid down decking tape, Sealeron Ice and Water, and a synthetic underlayment, these layers help seal the roof in case the shingles were ever damaged.

Lastly, we installed the shingles and this homeowner decided on our IKO Dynasty Granite Black Shingles. As we installed the shingles we also installed the flashings around any openings in the roof, like vents and chimneys. We also install them anywhere shingles touch the siding. After a day and a half, this homeowner had a brand new roof that perfectly complemented the rest of their home, and they can be confident knowing that their roof is under warranty for 50 years.

Full roof replacement on this cute home in Danbury, CT

This home needed a lot of work done to it and our job was to fix the roof. Starting with the problem, the shingles were faded due to old age and they were covered in algae. All the boots around the vents were dry rotted and leaking which was evident from not only the cracks but also the brown water stains.

The first step to this replacement was ripping up all the old shingles and inspecting the decking layer. For this home, the customer wanted a full replacement and this meant replacing every sheet of plywood good or bad. Once this was done we moved on to the sealing layer. This layer consists of three materials that work together to create a waterproof yet breathable seal over the decking layer. These materials are Strip tape, Sealeron Ice and Water, and a synthetic underlayment.

Finally, we installed the shingles and this customer decided on our IKO Dynasty Granite Black Shingles. When installing these we always start at the bottom-most edge to ensure that the shingles are layered properly and effectively direct water off the roof and into the gutters

By the end of the day, this roof was complete and we had another happy family who loved their new roof.
