The Old Roof
Here's what Christian's roof looked like before the renovation. Swipe through to see the transformation!
The Teardown Begins
The crew gets started by carefully removing the old shingles. Protective tarps are placed around the home to keep the property safe and make cleanup quick and efficient.
The Decking Is Exposed & Inspected
Beneath the shingles is the roof decking: the structural foundation of the entire roofing system. This layer is closely inspected for any signs of rot, mold, or deterioration.
New Plywood Is Installed
Due to the age and condition of the existing decking, it was best to replace it entirely. New CDX plywood was installed to create a strong, reliable base for the new roof.
Seams Are Taped and Ice and Water Shield Is Installed
All plywood seams are sealed with all-weather deck tape to meet current building codes. Ice and water shield is then installed along the eaves, valleys, and roof penetrations for added protection.
Underlayment Is Installed
Velora One synthetic underlayment is applied over the remaining surface, creating a breathable, water-resistant layer. Drip edge and rake metal flashing are then installed to direct water away from the fascia and into the gutters.
New Cricket for the Chimney
A chimney cricket is installed behind the chimney to help divert water away from the bricks and prevent pooling. Built strong and sturdy... yes, it's designed to handle that kind of weight!
New Shingles Are Installed
Now it's time for the new shingles! Christian chose the sleek shade Summit Gray from our IKO Dynasty collection: Impact 3-rated architectural shingles backed by our 50-year warranty.
Completed Chimney Cricket & Flashing
Flashing is installed where the chimney meets the roof to prevent water from seeping in at the junction. The chimney cricket is also shingled, tying everything together for a clean, finished look.
Ridge Vent Is Installed
A ridge vent is installed to allow hot, humid air to escape the attic, helping reduce moisture buildup. Matching ridge cap shingles are installed over top for a seamless finish.
SBS Roof Base Is Installed
This section of Christian's roof has a low slope, which requires a specialized SBS roofing system. The base layer is adhered directly to the plywood for proper waterproofing.
SBS Roof Cap Is Installed & Prepping for the Skylight
The SBS cap layer is installed over the base to complete the system. Custom openings are also created to accommodate Christian's skylights.
SBS Roofing Section Is Completed
The SBS roofing section is complete, and the new Velux skylights look right at home on the finished roof.
The Finished Product
After final details and a full property cleanup, Christian's new roof is officially complete. This aerial view shows the entire finished project.
