The Roof Before
Here's what Mike's roof looked like before his roof replacement. Click through to see the transformation.
The Teardown Begins
The project began with a complete removal of the old shingles, exposing the roof decking beneath, which serves as the structural foundation of the roofing system.
Time for New Decking
Mike's home featured original wood lath decking, also known as skip sheathing. While this construction was common years ago with lighter roofing materials, modern architectural shingles require a solid decking surface for proper support and performance.
New Plywood Is Installed
New CDX plywood was installed over the entire roof, creating a strong, stable base for the new roofing system. Each sheet was documented for accurate material tracking and transparency with the homeowner.
Seams Are Taped and Ice and Water Shield Is Installed
All plywood seams were sealed with all-weather deck tape to meet current building codes. Ice and water shield was installed along the eaves, valleys, and around all roof penetrations for critical leak protection.
Underlayment Completed & Drip Edge Flashing Installed
The remaining roof surface was covered with Velora One synthetic underlayment, providing a breathable, water-resistant barrier. Drip edge and rake metal were then installed to guide water away from the fascia and into the gutter system.
New Shingles Are Installed
For his new roof, Mike selected IKO Dynasty architectural shingles in Summit Gray. These Impact 3-rated shingles deliver enhanced durability and are backed by our 50-year warranty.
Ridge Vent Is Installed
8A ridge vent was installed to allow hot, humid air to escape from the attic, helping reduce moisture buildup and improve overall roof performance.
New Flashing Is Installed on the Chimney
New flashing was installed where the chimney meets the roof, creating a watertight seal that directs water away from the junction and helps prevent future leaks.
The Finishing Touches
After final detailing and a complete property cleanup, Mike's roof replacement was complete. This rooftop view highlights the clean lines and professional installation.
New Gutters to Top It All Off
To complete the system, new 6-inch white gutters with wide-mouth outlets were installed to improve water flow and protect the home's exterior.
