The Roof Before
Here's what John and Dixie's roof looked like before their roof replacement. Click through to see the transformation.
Before: Old Shingles
A closer look at the original roof revealed worn three-tab shingles that had begun lifting, a clear sign the system had reached the end of its service life and needed replacement.
The Teardown Begins
The project began with a complete removal of the old shingles. Protective tarps were installed around the home to safeguard the property and ensure a clean, efficient worksite throughout the process.
The Decking Is Exposed
Beneath the shingles is the plywood roof decking (sheathing), which serves as the structural foundation of the roofing system.
Bad Plywood Is Removed & Replaced
As the roof's structural base, the decking was carefully inspected for rot, mold, and deterioration. Any compromised sections were promptly removed and replaced with new CDX plywood to create a strong, stable foundation.
Seams Are Taped & Ice and Water Shield Is Installed
All decking seams were sealed with all-weather deck tape to meet current building codes. Ice and water shield was installed along the eaves, valleys, and around all roof penetrations for critical leak protection.
Underlayment Is Installed
The remaining roof surface was covered with Velora One synthetic underlayment, providing a breathable, water-resistant barrier across the entire roofing system.
New Shingles Are Installed
For their new roof, John and Dixie selected IKO Dynasty architectural shingles in Cornerstone. These Impact 3-rated shingles deliver enhanced durability and are backed by our 50-year warranty.
The Hot Box
Because this project was completed during winter, shingles were stored in a heated "hot box" to keep them pliable and ensure proper sealing during cold-weather installation. This helps maintain performance and installation quality in low temperatures.
Ridge Vent Is Installed
A ridge vent was installed to allow hot, humid air to escape from the attic, helping reduce moisture buildup and improve overall roof performance.
New Flashing on the Chimney
New metal flashing was installed where the chimney meets the roof, creating a watertight seal that directs water away from the joint and helps prevent future leaks.
The Roof After
After final detailing and a complete property cleanup, John and Dixie's roof replacement was complete, delivering a clean, durable, and professionally finished result.
