The Roof Before
Here's what Machelle and Bryan's roof looked like before their roof replacement. Click through to see the transformation.
Before: Mossy & Torn
A closer look at the original roof revealed heavy moss growth caused by moisture and debris buildup, along with torn, weather-damaged shingles. With the roof well past its prime, a full replacement was the best solution.
The Teardown Begins
The project began with a complete removal of the old shingles. Protective tarps were installed around the home to safeguard the property and ensure a clean, efficient worksite throughout the process.
The Sheathing Is Exposed
Beneath the shingles is the plywood roof sheathing, which serves as the structural foundation of the roof. Each section was carefully inspected for rot, mold, and deterioration. The crew determined that no plywood needed to be replaced!
Seams Are Taped and Ice and Water Shield Is Installed
To meet building code and improve long-term performance, all decking seams were sealed with all-weather deck tape. Ice and water shield was installed along the eaves, valleys, and around all roof penetrations for critical leak protection.
Underlayment Is Installed
The remaining roof surface was covered with Velora One synthetic underlayment, providing a breathable, water-resistant barrier across the entire roof system.
Time for New Shingles
Drip edge and rake metal were installed along the roof edges to prevent water intrusion and direct runoff away from the fascia and into the gutters. Starter shingles were then applied to create a secure, properly sealed base for the new shingle system.
Shingling Away
For their new roof, Machelle and Bryan selected IKO Dynasty architectural shingles in Granite Black. These Impact 3-rated shingles offer enhanced durability and are backed by our 50-year warranty.
Ridge Vents Are Installed
Ridge vents were installed to allow hot, humid air to escape from the attic, helping reduce moisture buildup and improve overall roof performance. Matching ridge cap shingles were added for a seamless, finished appearance.
New Flashing Is Installed on the Chimney
New flashing was installed where the chimney meets the roof, creating a watertight seal that directs water away from the joint and prevents future leaks.
The Roof After
After final detailing and a complete property cleanup, Machelle and Bryan's roof replacement was complete-delivering improved protection, performance, and a beautifully finished look.
