The Roof Before
Here's what Lynn's roof looked like before the renovation. Swipe through to see the beautiful transformation!
The Teardown Begins
The crew began by removing all the old shingles. Underneath the three-tab shingles was an even older layer of wood shake - a method that was common decades ago, but not ideal for long-term durability. Today, when we encounter shake under old shingles, it all has to be removed to ensure a safe, up-to-code installation.
A Clean Slate
All roofing material was torn off down to the rafters, giving the crew a clean, solid starting point for the new roof.
New Plywood Is Installed
Strong CDX plywood was installed over the rafters to create a modern, stable roof decking capable of supporting today's architectural shingles.
Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Installed
All plywood seams were sealed with all-weather deck tape to meet building codes. SealoronXT ice-and-water shield was applied from the eaves up six feet for maximum protection in vulnerable areas. Velora One synthetic underlayment covered the remaining decking, creating a breathable yet water-resistant protective layer.
Ready for New Shingles
Drip edge and rake metal flashing were placed along all roof edges to prevent water intrusion and properly direct runoff into the gutters.
New Shingles Go On
Time for shingles! Lynn selected the beautiful Granite Black from our IKO Dynasty collection. These Impact-3 rated architectural shingles are backed by our 50-year Brown Roofing warranty.
Ridge Vent Is Installed
A ridge vent was added along the highest point of the roof to allow hot, humid air to escape, preventing condensation buildup inside the attic.
New Flashing Is Installed on the Chimney
New chimney flashing - a thin but strong metal barrier - was installed to ensure the chimney base remains completely watertight.
The Roof After
After final touches and a thorough cleanup, Lynn's new roof is complete - strong, clean, and looking absolutely incredible.
