Roof Replacement Photo Album: Westport, CT Home Gets a Beautiful Cornerstone Roof Makeover

Westport homeowner Jamie reached out to Brown Roofing when he noticed that his aging three-tab shingles were showing significant wear and no longer providing reliable protection. Inspector Chase performed a detailed assessment and explained exactly what needed to be upgraded for a long-lasting and modern roofing system. Project Manager KC and the crew removed all of the old shingles and reinforced Jamie’s older tongue-and-groove decking by installing strong CDX plywood for a more secure base. The team then applied a full underlayment system, including SealoronXT ice-and-water shield and Velora One synthetic underlayment, before finishing the roof with IKO Dynasty shingles in the beautiful shade Cornerstone. The crew begins by removing all old shingles. This exposes the plywood beneath, called the decking, which is the structural foundation of the roof. Jamie's home had older tongue-and-groove planks. This style was common decades ago, but not strong enough for today's architectural shingles.

New Plywood Is Installed

To reinforce the structure, CDX plywood is installed over the tongue-and-groove planks. This creates a sturdy and reliable base capable of supporting a full modern roofing system.

Seams Are Taped and Ice and Water Shield Is Installed

Velora One synthetic underlayment is then installed to provide a breathable, water-resistant barrier. Drip edge and rake metal flashing are added around all roof edges to prevent water intrusion and guide runoff safely into the gutters.

All plywood seams are taped with all-weather deck tape to meet building codes. SealoronXT ice-and-water shield is applied from the eaves up six feet and into all valleys to protect the most vulnerable areas from rain, snow, and ice dams.
