Roof Replacement Photo Album: Middlebury, CT Roof Replacement: Mold Out, Strength In

Middlebury homeowner David reached out to Brown Roofing after noticing a leak in his 24-year-old roof. During his inspection, Inspector Darwin discovered black mold spreading across the attic decking, confirming the need for a full roof replacement. Under the direction of Project Manager Carlos, the crew removed the damaged shingles and plywood, replacing everything with brand-new CDX sheathing to form a solid, healthy foundation. The roof was then sealed with ice and water shield, Velora One synthetic underlayment, and finished with IKO Dynasty shingles in Driftshake, backed by our 50-year warranty. With new flashing, ridge vent, and a refreshed bay window roof, David’s home is now protected, mold-free, and built to last.

The Plywood Before

During his inspection, Inspector Darwin discovered black mold spreading across the plywood foundation (called the decking) in David's attic - a clear sign that it was time for a full replacement.

The Teardown Begins

The crew began by carefully stripping all of the old shingles. Large tarps were hung around the edges of the roof to protect the property and make cleanup more efficient by catching falling debris.

Bad Plywood Is Removed

Once the shingles were removed, the team identified and replaced all sections of plywood affected by mold, decay, or water damage.

New Plywood Is Installed

Brand-new CDX plywood was installed to create a solid, durable foundation for the new roofing system.

Seams Are Taped & Ice and Water Shield Is Installed

All plywood seams were sealed with deck tape to meet building code, and ice and water shield membrane was adhered from the eaves up six feet for protection against harsh New England elements.

Underlayment is Completed and Drip Edge Is Installed

The rest of the roof was covered in Velora One synthetic underlayment for a strong, water-resistant barrier. Drip edge and rake metal flashing were also installed along the edges to prevent leaks and ensure proper drainage.
