The Roof Before
Here's what Tom's roof looked like before the replacement. Swipe through to watch the full transformation!
Before: Lots of Lichen
The old three-tab shingles were well past their lifespan and covered in lichen: a moisture-loving growth that slowly breaks down shingles over time. Definitely time for an upgrade!
The Teardown Begins
The crew begins by removing all of the old shingles. Large tarps are set up around the property to protect the yard and catch debris, making cleanup fast and safe. Once stripped, the plywood decking underneath is fully exposed for inspection.
Bad Plywood Is Removed
Any sections of damaged decking are removed so the new roof system has a healthy, stable base.
New Plywood Is Installed
New CDX plywood is installed where needed, with each sheet numbered so the homeowner knows exactly how many were replaced.
Seams Are Taped & Ice and Water Shield Is Installed
All plywood seams are sealed with deck tape to meet building code, and ice & water shield membrane is applied from the eaves up six feet and in valleys for leak protection.
Underlayment is Completed and Drip Edge Is Installed
The rest of the roof is covered in Velora One synthetic underlayment, and drip edge/rake metal flashing is installed around the perimeter to prevent water intrusion.
New Roof for the Dog House
Even the small roof over the doghouse gets the same professional treatment, because every roof on the property deserves to stay dry and protected!
A New Look
Tom chose IKO Dynasty shingles in the bold shade Graphite Black: a sleek, modern look backed by our 50-year warranty.
New Flashing for the Chimney
New chimney flashing is installed to ensure a watertight seal where the chimney meets the roof.
The Roof After
All finished, and the new roof looks incredible! The Graphite Black shingles pair perfectly with the green siding. Nice choice, Tom!
