Lichen and Moss Growth
On Ann's old roof there was a lot of moss and lichen growth, which occurs when moisture and debris build up, and they make the shingles deteriorate faster. Swipe through to see how we installed a brand new Brown Roofing system.
Stains in the Attic
Water stains in the attic, like these in Ann's home, are a clear warning sign of roof damage. When you see this, it's important to have your roof inspected by a professional as soon as possible.
New Plywood and Underlayment
After removing the old shingles, the crew inspects and replaces any damaged plywood, known as sheathing. Once repaired, a water-resistant underlayment is installed across the entire roof to shield it from rain, snow, and harsh New England weather.

The seams of each plywood sheet are sealed with all-weather deck tape, ensuring the roof meets current building codes and is fully protected from moisture intrusion.

Drip edge and rake metal flashing are installed along the roof's edges to prevent water from seeping in and to guide it safely into the gutters.
Step-Flashing Installed
Step-flashing is added where the lower roof meets the wall of the house, creating another watertight barrier to keep moisture out of the structure.
New Shingles Are Installed
Now for the new shingles! Ann chose the timeless shade of Granite Black from our IKO Dynasty collection: a durable, high-performance shingle backed by our 50-year Brown Promise warranty.
Bay Window Roof
Even smaller roof sections, like the bay window, receive the same care and materials for a consistent, polished look across the entire home.
Copper Flashing on the Chimney
Copper flashing is installed around the chimney base, adding both strong waterproofing and an elegant finishing touch.
Ridge Vent Is Installed
A ridge vent is placed along the roof's peaks, allowing hot, humid air to escape and preventing condensation buildup in the attic.
The Finishing Touches
With every final detail complete and the site cleaned up, Ann's new roof is finished! Strong, sleek, and built to protect her home for decades ahead.
