Before: Worn Valleys
There is clear evidence of moisture damage in the valleys of Joshua's old roof. Roof valleys, the internal angles where two slopes meet, are especially vulnerable to water infiltration. In this case, the valleys show visible discoloration and lifting, indicating long-term exposure to moisture and potential underlying issues.
Before: Algae and Moss
This section of Joshua's old roof shows visible signs of algae and moss growth. The dark streaks are caused by algae, while the green patches are moss: both of which thrive in damp, debris-covered areas. Left untreated, they can accelerate shingle deterioration and hurt curb appeal. It's time to clear it up and replace the roof for good.
The Teardown Begins
The crew began by carefully removing all of the old shingles, exposing the plywood foundation beneath which is known as the roof decking. As the structural base of the roof, the decking plays a critical role in overall integrity. The team thoroughly inspected the entire surface for signs of damage, including rot, mold, or deterioration.
Seams Are Taped and Ice and Water Shield Is Installed
Ice and water shield membrane is installed from the eaves up six feet to protect the roof's most vulnerable areas from harsh elements like rain, snow, and ice. Next, the seams of the remaining plywood sheets are sealed with all-weather deck tape, ensuring the roof meets current building codes and standards for durability.
Underlayment Completed & Drip Edge Flashing Installed
Velora One synthetic underlayment is then installed across the remaining roof surface to create a tough water-resistant barrier. Drip edge and rake metal flashing are added along the roof's edges to protect the fascia and guide water runoff safely into the gutters.
New Shingles Are Installed
With the roof fully prepped, it's time to install the new shingles. At Brown Roofing, we proudly use IKO Dynasty premium laminated architectural shingles-backed by our 50-year warranty. Available in a range of sleek, modern colors, Joshua chose the stunning Brownstone shade for his new roof.
Ridge Vent Is Installed
At the peak of the roof, a ridge vent is installed to allow rising heat and moisture to escape, improving attic ventilation and helping protect the home from condensation-related damage.
The Roof Is Complete
After a spotless cleanup and a final inspection, Joshua's new roof is officially complete - looking great and built to handle whatever the seasons bring.
