The Roof Before
Here's a look at Kim's roof before the renovation. Swipe through to see the amazing transformation!

The Teardown Begins
The crew kicks things off by carefully stripping all of the old shingles off of the roof. Large tarps are hung up around the edges of the roof to collect the falling debris as well as ensure full protection of the homeowner's property from potential damage.

New Plywood Is Installed
Underneath the old shingles is a layer of plywood called the sheathing. This is the structural foundation of the roof. The crew found that all of Kim's sheathing was affected by moisture damage, so they removed the entire layer. They installed a brand-new layer of sturdy half-inch CDX plywood, ensuring a solid and strong base for the new roofing system.

Underlayment Is Installed
Now it's time to install the underlayment. This thin, water-resistant layer shields the sheathing from harsh elements like rain, snow, and ice. Ice and water shield membrane is installed from the eaves up six feet. The rest of the surface is covered with Velora One synthetic paper. A thin metal barrier called the rake metal and drip edge flashing is installed around the edges of the roof to ensure water does not seep under or into the fascia.

Rabbit Runs Are Secured
We refer to these narrow side eaves as "rabbit runs." They are protected with ice and water membrane to ensure maximum durability in this vulnerable roof transition zone.

New Shingles Are Installed
Now it's time to install the new shingles! For her new roof, Kim has selected the sleek shade of Matte Black from our IKO Dynasty collection. These premium-laminated, Impact 3-rated shingles, proudly backed by our 50-year warranty, are installed in a clean "staircase" pattern.

The Finishing Touches
A vent is installed along the ridge of the roof to maximize airflow, allowing hot, humid air rising from inside of the house to safely escape. The ridge vent is topped with ridge cap shingles to ensure a seamless finish. A pipe boot is affixed to the roof pipe. This flashing is constructed from a high-impact, UV-resistant plastic, guaranteed to stay strong no matter the weather.
