The Roof Before
Here is a look at Jason's roof before the replacement. Click through to see the excellent way we transformed it!
The Teardown Begins
The crew starts things off by carefully stripping all of the old shingles off of the roof. Before they begin, large tarps are laid out across the property to protect the homeowner's property as well as pave the way to a more efficient cleanup process.
Bad Plywood Is Removed
Underneath the shingles is a layer of plywood called the sheathing. This is the structural foundation of the roof, and as such, must be in tip-top condition before the new roofing system can be installed. Any sections found with damage, like rot or mold, are removed.
New Plywood Is Installed
The crew installs brand-new half-inch CDX plywood to replace all removed areas and create a strong, solid new base. Each sheet used is numbered for easy tracking to make sure the crew can accurately report back to the homeowner exactly how many new sheets have been installed.
Underlayment Is Installed
After the sheathing is securely nailed into place, the underlayment is installed. This is a thin, water-resistant membrane that shields the sheathing from harsh elements like rain, snow, and ice. A thin metal barrier called drip edge and rake metal flashing are installed around the edges of the roof to prevent moisture from seeping under the edges, directing it away from the fascia and into the gutters.
New Shingles Are Installed
Now it's time to install the new shingles! For his new roof, Jason has selected the sleek shade of Shadow Brown from our premium-laminated IKO Dynasty collection to gorgeously complement his green-sided house. These Impact 3-rated shingles are proudly backed by Brown Roofing's 50-year warranty.
New Flashing for the Chimney
Flashing is installed around the chimney. Much like the flashing around the edges of the roof, this metal barrier prevents moisture from seeping into the roof through this otherwise vulnerable junction.
Ridge Vent Is Installed
Proper airflow is maintained by installing a vent along the roof ridge, giving hot, moist air a path out of the attic.
The Roof After
After some final touches and a full cleanup, Jason's roof project is complete and looking great!
