Before: Back View
Here's a look at the back of Bill's roof before the replacement. While some moss, lichen, and algae were visible from the front, the back had clearly become a major hotspot for buildup. Time to get started on a brand-new roof! Keep swiping to see the stunning transformation!

Prepping the Property
Before the crew starts the teardown, they hang up large tarps around the edges of the roof, and also drape some around the property to fully protect it from any potential damage. These tarps also catch the falling debris, making cleanup an efficient process.

The Teardown Begins
Underneath the old shingles is a layer of plywood called the sheathing. This is the structural foundation of the roof, and, as such, must be closely examined for any signs of rot, mold, or any other damage, so those sections can be removed and replaced to ensure a solid and strong base for the new roofing system. The good news for Bill is that the crew did not find any evidence of damage!

Goodbye Skylights
Bill had two skylights he wanted removed. No problem! The crew custom-cut sheets of sturdy half-inch CDX plywood to fit the openings perfectly and securely nailed them into place.

Underlayment Is Installed
To meet current building codes, the seams of each CDX plywood sheet used for Bill's sheathing are sealed with all-weather deck tape. Ice and water shield membrane is applied from the eaves up six feet and along the tops of the dormers, providing critical protection in areas most vulnerable to moisture from rain, snow, and ice. The rest of the roof is then covered with a layer of synthetic underlayment for added durability and defense.

New Shingles Go On
Now the crew is ready to install the new shingles! Bill has selected the sleek and sophisticated shade of Granite Black from our IKO Dynasty collection to beautifully complement his home. These strong, premium-laminated shingles are proudly backed by Brown Roofing's 50-year warranty.

Ridge Vent Is Installed
A vent is installed along the ridges of the roof to allow for proper airflow. Hot, humid air rising from inside the house has a way to escape, eliminating damaging condensation buildup.

New Flashing Is Installed on the Chimney
A thin metal barrier called flashing is installed around the base of the chimney where it meets the roof, preventing water from seeping into what would otherwise be a vulnerable junction.

The New Roof
After a few finishing touches and a thorough tidy-up of the entire yard, Bill's roof is officially complete and looking fantastic!
