The Roof Before
Here's a look at the shed roof on John's property before the renovation. As you can see, moss had started to take over the standard-quality cedar shake shingles, thanks in large part to the constant shade from the beautiful surrounding trees, which trap moisture and speeds up deterioration. The Teardown Begins
The crew starts things off by carefully removing all of the old shake shingles. Before they begin, tarps are laid out around the roof to catch falling debris, makign for a more efficient cleanup and also ensuring protection of the homeowner's property and yard.

Ice-and-Water Shield Is Installed
Once all of the old shingles have been removed, the crew examines the decking-the structural foundation of the roof-for any internal damage. Once they deem it in good condition, they start installing the ice-and-water shield from the eaves up three feet. This waterproof membrane adheres directly to the decking to shield it from harsh elements that could cause moisture damage like rain, snow, and ice.

Ventilated Underlayment Is Installed
Next, Benjamin Obdyke Cedar Breather Ventilated Underlayment is installed up six feet. This allows for airflow between the shingles and the decking, preventing moisture buildup and promoting ventilation, prolonging the life of the roof.

New Shake Shingles Are Installed
Now it's time to install the cedar shake shingles! John chose stunning Certi-Grade Western Red Cedar, which will give his roof a rich, natural look and long-lasting beauty.

The Roof After
After a few final touches, including a ridge vent to help prevent internal moisture buildup and future moss growth, and a full yard cleanup, John's stunning new shed roof is officially complete!
