The Old Roof
Here's a look at Amanda's roof before the renovation. Those beautiful trees in her yard come at a price, as their shade has caused significant moisture buildup over the years leading to moss and lichen growth. Let's get her a brand-new roof built to stand up to the elements!

Protecting the Property
Before the teardown begins, the crew spends time making absolutely sure homeowner's property is completely protected from potential damage!

The Teardown Starts
With everything secured, the crew starts carefully stripping all of the old shingles off of the roof. Underneath the shingles is a layer of plywood called the decking. This is the structural foundation of the roof.

New Plywood Is Installed
As the foundation, it's important that the health of the decking is tip-top shape. Any sections found with damage, like rot or mold, are removed and replaced with sturdy new half-inch CDX plywood.

Seams Are Taped and Ice-and-Water Shield Is Installed
With the decking secured, the crew tapes up all the seams of the plywood sheets with all-weather Sealoron XT deck tape. Ice-and-water shield is installed from the eaves up six feet. This thin, waterproof membrane adheres directly to the decking, fully protecting it from harsh elements like rain, snow, and ice.

Underlayment Is Installed and Drip Edge Flashing
The rest of the decking is covered in thin synthetic Velora One underlayment for complete protection. Drip edge and rake metal flashing is installed around the edges of the roof to prevent moisture from seeping up under, directing water away from the fascia and into the gutters.

New Shingles Go On
Now it's time to install the new shingles! Brown Roofing proudly trusts IKO Dynasty premium-laminated architectural shingles for all roofs backed by our 50-year warranty. Amanda has selected the sleek shade of Driftshake from IKO's variety of stylish colors.

Same for the Portico
The crew does the exact same, premium process for this small roof over the front door, which is called a portico.

New Flashing Is Installed on the Chimney
A thin metal barrier called flashing is installed around the chimney where it meets the roof, ensuring a watertight seal around what was otherwise a vulnerable junction.

The New Roof
After a few finishing touches, like installing a ridge vent along the top to ensure proper air circulation as well as a ridge cap for a seamless finish, and then a thorough cleanup of the entire yard, Amanda's roof is officially complete!
