The Old Roof
Take a good gander at Heather's roof before the replacement. This roof has definitely seen better days. The dark streaking is roof algae, a common side effect of years of moisture damage penetrating the shingles. Swipe through to see the awesome transformation!

The Teardown Starts
The crew kicks things off by carefully stripping all of the old shingles off of the roof. Before they begin, they hang up large tarps all around the edges of the roof to catch all of the falling debris as well as ensure full protection of the property from potential damage.

The Decking Is Exposed
Beneath the old shingles lies the wood foundation of the roof which is known as the decking. In Heather's case, her home was built with plank decking. This is a common style used in older homes. Over time, these individual planks can become worn, loose, or damaged. As you can see here, the condition of this decking confirms that the roof is well past its prime and ready for a full replacement.

New Plywood Is Installed
To create a strong, reliable foundation for the new shingles, brand-new CDX plywood sheets are installed directly over the existing plank decking. This forms a solid new layer. Each sheet is carefully numbered for accurate tracking, allowing the crew to report back to the homeowner exactly how many were used during the installation.

Underlayment Is Installed
Next, a waterproof underlayment is applied across the entire roof surface to protect the decking from rain, wind, snow, and ice. An ice-and-water shield is first adhered from the eaves up to six feet, followed by Velora One synthetic underlayment covering the rest of the roof. To finish this layer of protection, drip edge and rake metal flashing are installed along all roof edges. These metal barriers help direct water into the gutters and prevent seepage under the shingles. Everything is securely nailed and sealed with all-weather Sealoron XT deck tape.

A New Skylight with Flashing
A brand-new VELUX skylight is installed to replace the old one, bringing in more light and a fresh, modern look. Paired with elegant copper flashing, this upgrade adds both beauty and function to the new roof.

New Shingles Are Installed
Now it's time to install the new shingles! Heather has selected the super popular shade of Granite Black from our premium-laminated, architectural asphalt IKO Dynasty collection. These renowned shingles are proudly backed by Brown Roofing's 50-year warranty.

Chimney Cricket and Flashing Are Installed
The crew has installed a new chimney cricket and sealed it with sleek metal flashing. This triangular structure is built at the base of the chimney to divert water away and help prevent leaks, ensuring the roof stays watertight.

Ridge Vent Is Installed
A ridge vent is installed along the highest points of the roof. This vent ensures proper airflow by allowing hot, moist air rising from inside of the house a way to escape, preventing damaging condensation buildup inside of the attic.

The New Roof
After a few finishing touches, a brand new roof pipe, and a spotless cleanup of the entire yard, Heather's roof is officially complete!
