Here's a look at Mike's roof from the front before the renovation. Click through to see the gorgeous transformation!

Before: Wavy Looks
Mike's old roof had a wavy appearance-known as buckling-caused by significant moisture damage beneath the shingles. At this point, the shingles were completely compromised. Thankfully, we got there just in time to replace everything before any major leaks could set in.

The Old Shingles Come Off
The crew starts things off by carefully stripping all of the old shingles off of the roof. This reveals the layer of plywood underneath, which is called the sheathing.

The Sheathing Is Examined
The sheathing is the structural foundation of the roof. As such, it needs to be in tip-top health, any sections found with damage, like rot or mold, need to be removed. The crew found that all of Mike's sheathing was damaged and needed to be stripped.

New Plywood Is Installed
The crew installs strong new 1/2" CDX plywood sheets, forming a healthy and solid new base for the new roof. Each sheet installed is numbered for easy tracking so that the crew can accurately report back to the homeowner exactly how many new sheets were used.

Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Installed
As the sheathing continues to be installed, other crew members begin taping of the seams of each sheet with all-weather deck tape as per building codes. After that, a layer of underlayment is installed. This is a thin, water-resistant membrane that protects the sheathing from harmful elements like rain, wind, snow, and ice.

New Cricket for the Chimney
A new cricket is installed against the chimney. This triangular addition prevents water from pooling and potentially damaging the chimney and surrounding roof.

The New Shingles Go On
Now it's time to install the new shingles! For his new roof, Mike has selected the sleek shade of Shadow Brown from our heavyweight IKO Dynasty collection. These sleek, premium-laminated shingles are proudly backed by Brown Roofing's 50-year warranty.

Completed Chimney Cricket & Flashing
The chimney cricket is completed with shingles, and flashing is secured around the entire chimney where it meets the roof. This is a thin, metal barrier that ensures a watertight seal around the junction.

New Skylights Installed
Brand-new VELUX brand skylights are installed, replacing Mike's old skylights with a fresh and modern look.

The Finished Look
Mike's roof is now officially complete and looking phenomenal!
