The Roof Before
Here's a look at Michael's roof before the renovation. Those old, worn shingles have got to go. Click through to see the gorgeous transformation!

Before: Tarped Up
Before, Michael had a tarp on his roof to stop water from leaking in. It's a solution, but not a particularly attractive one. Time for something long-lasting and beautiful!

The Teardown Begins

The Sheathing Is Examined
Underneath the old shingles is a layer of plywood called the sheathing. This is the structural foundation of the roof, and as such, needs to be in tip-top condition. The crew carefully inspects the entire surface for any evidence of damage, such as rot or mold.

Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Installed
The crew found no damage on Michael's sheathing and proceeded on with the next step: taping up the seams of each plywood sheet with all-weather deck tape, and then installing a layer of underlayment. This thin, waterproof membrane will protect the sheathing from harsh elements like rain, wind, snow, and ice.

Same for the Shed
Meanwhile, the same process is happening on the shed: old shingles removed, sheathing examined, and now new underlayment installed.

New Shingles Are Installed
Now it's time to install the new shingles! For his new roof, Michael has selected the highly popular Granite Black shade from our IKO Dynasty collection. These premium-laminated and heavyweight shingles are proudly backed by Brown Roofing's 50-year warranty!

Ridge Vent Is Installed
A shingle vent is installed along the ridges of the roof. This ensures proper airflow by allowing hot, moist air rising from the house a way to escape, preventing damaging condensation buildup.

New Flashing on the Chimney
New flashing is installed around the chimney where it meets the roof. This is a thin metal barrier that diverts water away from what would otherwise be a junction vulnerable to moisture damage.

The Roof After
After a few finishing touches and a spotless cleanup of the property, Michael's new roof is officially complete!

After: Tarp No More
Michael will not be needing a tarp for at least the next 50 years!

The Shed After
And of course we can't forget the shed, protected as well with its gorgeous matching roof!
