Take a gander at Leor's old roof before the renovation. Now swipe through to see the slick transformation!

The Teardown Begins
The crew kicks things off by carefully stripping all of the old shingles off of the roof. Before they begin, large tarps are laid down around the yard to ensure complete protection of the homeowner's property from the falling debris.

The Sheathing Is Exposed
Underneath the old shingles is what's called the sheathing. This is the structural foundation of the roof. Leor's roof had a type of sheathing called skip sheathing, where multiple wooden planks spaced apart form the surface on which the shingles are installed. While ideal for lightweight and wood shake shingles, this type of sheathing is not strong enough to support the heavyweight architectural shingles we will be installing today.

New Plywood Is Installed
In order to remedy this, durable 1/2" CDX plywood sheets are firmly installed on top of the skip sheathing to form a strong and solid new base for the new roof.

Underlayment Is Installed
With the new, reinforced sheathing securely in place, a layer of underlayment is installed over the entire surface. This is a thin, water-resistant material that protects the roof from harsh elements like rain, wind, snow and ice.

New Shingles Are Installed
Brown Roofing proudly installs premium-laminated IKO Dynasty shingles for all roofs backed by our 50-year warranty! For his new roof, Leor has selected the highly popular shade of Granite Black to beautifully complement his home.

SBS Base Is Installed
This section of Leor's roof was considered low-sloping. In accordance with current building codes, shingles cannot be installed on a low-sloping roof-instead, a specialized roofing section called SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) is installed. The first layer, called the base, is adhered onto the sheathing. The base acts the same as the underlayment.

SBS Cap Is Installed
The top layer of SBS, called the cap, is installed and creates a seamless finish for this section of Leor's roof.

The Roof After
With a few finishing touches, like installing a ridge vent for proper airflow and a ridge cap for a seamless finish, Leor's brand-new roof is complete and looking amazing!
