The Roof Before
Here's a look at Jo-Ann's roof before the renovation. Click through to see the stunning transformation!

Before: Lichen Land
This closer look at Jo-Ann's old roof shows an overwhelming amount of lichen growth. This is an invasive, algae-like plant that thrives on moisture and also keeps areas it grows moist, leading to significant shingle deterioration. Let's get rid of that once and for all!

The Teardown Begins
The crew starts things off by carefully stripping all of the old shingles off of the roof. Before they begin, they hang up large, strong tarps around the edges of the roof to catch falling debris, ensuring a more efficient cleanup process as well as ensuring full protection of the homeowner's property.

The Sheathing Is Exposed
Underneath the old shingles is a layer of plywood called the sheathing. This is the structural foundation of the roof, and as such, its health is crucial. The crew closely examines the entire surface for any evidence of damage, like rot or mold.

Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Installed
Our crew determined that all of the sheathing was in excellent condition and no sections needed to be replaced! In accordance with current building codes, the crew tapes up all of the plywood sheets at the seams with all-weather deck tape. After that, a layer of underlayment is applied over the entire sheathing. This thin, water-resistant membrane protects the plywood from harsh elements like rain, wind, snow, and ice.

Same for the Garage
Meanwhile, the same process is occurring with the roof on Jo-Ann's garage: the teardown, the sheathing inspection, and now a complete application of underlayment!

New Shingles Are Installed
With the underlayment fully in place, it's time to install the new shingles! For her new roof, Jo-Ann has chosen the sleek shade of Frostone Gray from our premium-laminated IKO Dynasty collection. These heavyweight shingles are proudly backed by Brown Roofing's 50-year warranty.

New Flashing Is Installed on Chimney
New flashing is installed around the edges of the chimney where it meets the roof. This is a thin metal barrier that prevents moisture from seeping into an otherwise vulnerable junction.

Ridge Vent Is Installed
A ridge vent is installed along the highest point of the roof. This ensures proper airflow by allowing hot, moist air rising from inside of the house a way to escape, eliminating harmful condensation buildup.

Ridge Cap is Installed
A ridge cap is installed over the ridge vent to ensure a sleek, seamless finish.

The Roof After
With a few finishing touches and a thorough cleanup of the entire process, Jo-Ann's roof is officially complete!
