The Roof Before
Here's a look at Jack's roof from the north face before the renovation. Click through to see the awesome transformation!

The Teardown Begins
The crew starts things off by carefully stripping off all of the old shingles. Before the teardown begins, the crew hangs up large tarps around the edges of the roof to catch falling debris, making for a speedier cleanup process as well as ensuring full protection of the homeowner's property.

The Sheathing Is Exposed
Sheathing forms the structural foundation beneath the shingles. In this case, Jack's roof has older plank-style sheathing, which was suitable for the lightweight shingles previously used. However, it isn't strong enough to support the new, heavier architectural shingles the crew will be installing.

New Plywood Is Installed
Sturdy new 1/2" CDX plywood is installed on top of the old sheathing, ensuring a strong and solid base for the new roof.

Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Installed
Next, the seams of each of the new sheets of plywood are taped up with heavy-duty all-weather deck tape for added reinforcement. After that, underlayment is installed over the entire surface. This is a thin, waterproof membrane that protects the sheathing from harsh elements like rain, snow, and ice.

Ready for New Shingles
Drip edge flashing, a thin metal, is installed around all of the edges of the roof. This acts as a barrier, preventing water from seeping under the edges and channeling it into the gutters. Starter shingles are installed on top of the drip edge to ensure a seamless appearance, and now it's time to install the new shingles!

New Shingles Are Installed
For his new roof, Jack has selected the sleek shade of Shadow Brown from our premium-laminated IKO Dynasty collection to perfectly complement his caramel-colored house.

Ridge Vent Is Installed
A vent is installed along the ridges of the roof to ensure proper airflow. This allows hot, moist air that rises from inside of the house a way to escape, preventing damaging condensation buildup.

Soffits Are Installed
The other step of ensuring proper ventilation is adding small vents to the soffit, which allows cool, dry air to circulate as the moist air leaves through the ridge vents.

New Flashing Is Installed on the Chimney
New flashing is installed on the side of the chimney where it meets the roof. Like the drip edge, this thin metal barrier ensures a watertight seal on an otherwise vulnerable junction.

The Roof After
With a couple of finishing touches and a final check, Jack's new roof is complete and ready to shine!
