The Roof Before
Here's a look at Philip's roof before the renovation. Click through to see the stunning transformation!

The Teardown Begins
The crew starts things off by carefully stripping all of the old shingles off. Before the teardown starts, they hang up large tarps around the edges of the roof to catch the falling debris, creating a more efficient cleanup process and a way to ensure that the homeowner's property is completely protected from damage.

The Sheathing Is Examined
Under the old shingles is a layer of plywood called the sheathing. This is the structural foundation of the roof, and as such, must be in tip-top condition before new shingles can be installed. Any areas found with damage, like rot or mold, are removed and replaced with strong new CDX plywood.

Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Installed
After the plywood is dealt with, the sheathing is covered in a layer of underlayment. This thin, waterproof membrane shields it from potentially damaging elements like wind, rain, snow, and ice.

New Shingles Are Installed
Now we're ready to install the new shingles! These shingles are from our premium-laminated IKO Dynasty collection, and are proudly backed by Brown Roofing's 50-year warranty. Philip has selected the fantastic shade of Emerald Green for his new roof.

SBS Base Is Installed
This section of Philip's roof is flat, and current building codes do not allow shingles to be installed on flat sections. Instead, a specialized SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) roof is installed. The first layer of the SBS system is called the cap, and it acts just the same as underlayment.

SBS Roof Is Completed
The second layer of SBS, called the cap, is firmly adhered on top of the base, completing the SBS roof with a polished look.

New Flashing for the Chimney
New flashing is installed around the edges of the chimney where it meets the roof. This thin metal barrier prevents water from seeping into the junction and causing moisture damage.

The Roof After
With the last shingle set and the site spotless, Philip's roof transformation is officially complete!
