Before Replacement - Front View
A front view of Dave and Deirdre's charming Cape Cod home in Shelton, CT, before the roof replacement began. The aging shingles were ready to be replaced with a fresh, updated roofing system.
Before Replacement - Aerial View
This aerial view highlights the condition of the existing roof, particularly along the rear slope. Dark algae streaks and visible shingle deterioration showed the effects of years of exposure and shaded conditions.
Roof Tear-Off Preparation
Our crew began the roof replacement by carefully positioning protective tarps along the home. These tarps helped contain falling roofing debris and protect the surrounding property during the tear-off process.
Removing the Existing Shingles
The old shingles were stripped away to expose the plywood decking underneath. This decking provides the structural foundation that supports the roofing materials above it.
Inspecting the Roof Decking
With the existing roofing materials removed, the plywood decking was fully exposed for inspection. Our crew examined the decking for deterioration and other conditions that could compromise the new roofing system.
Removing Damaged Plywood
During the decking inspection, our crew identified plywood that needed replacement. The damaged section was removed to make way for new, structurally sound decking.
Installing New CDX Plywood
A new sheet of CDX plywood was installed where the deteriorated decking had been removed. This repair provided a solid foundation for the roofing materials that would follow.
Taped Seams and Ice and Water Shield
The plywood seams were taped, and ice and water shield was installed extending six feet up from the eaves. These protective measures help reduce the risk of moisture intrusion in vulnerable areas of the roof.
VELORA ONE Synthetic Underlayment
VELORA ONE synthetic underlayment was installed across the remaining roof surfaces. This layer provides an additional moisture-resistant barrier beneath the new shingles.
Edge Metal and Shingle Preparation
New drip edge and rake metal were installed along the roof's perimeter to help direct water away from vulnerable edges. Bundles of shingles were positioned on the roof in preparation for installation.
Installing IKO Dynasty Shingles
Our crew installed IKO Dynasty architectural shingles in the Shadow Brown color. The rich brown shade complements the home's light gray siding and distinctive green shutters and front door.
Completed Roof Replacement
The completed roof gives Dave and Deirdre's Cape Cod home a beautiful, refreshed appearance. The new Shadow Brown shingles complement the home's classic exterior details, creating a warm and welcoming finished look.
