A Garage Roof Ready for a Change
Before replacement, one side of the detached garage roof showed extensive moss growth across the aging shingles. With the existing roof approximately 20-25 years old, Kenneth was ready to explore replacement options and give the structure a much-needed refresh.
Wear Across the Roof
The opposite side of the garage showed less moss growth but still displayed visible signs of age and deterioration. The smaller porch roof had become particularly worn, making it another important part of the upcoming transformation.
Beginning the Tear-Off
The Brown Roofing crew began by carefully stripping away the existing shingles and roofing materials. Protective tarps were positioned around the garage to help contain falling debris and protect the surrounding property throughout the tear-off process.
Removing Damaged Decking
Once the old roofing materials were removed, the exposed roof decking could be closely inspected. Areas of compromised plywood were identified and removed so that the new roofing system would not be installed over a weakened foundation.
Restoring the Roof Deck
New CDX plywood replaced the damaged sections that had been removed from the garage roof. These repairs restored a solid, dependable surface and prepared the structure for the protective roofing materials to follow.
Adding Waterproof Protection
With the necessary decking repairs complete, plywood seams were taped and ice and water shield was installed in vulnerable areas of the roof. These materials add another layer of protection beneath the finished shingles.
Ready for Summit Gray
Synthetic underlayment was installed across the remaining exposed decking, followed by new drip edge and rake metal along the roof perimeter. With these preparation layers in place, the garage was ready for its new shingles.
Installing Summit Gray
IKO Dynasty shingles in Summit Gray began transforming the appearance of the detached garage. The clean, dimensional shingles provide a dramatic contrast to the moss-covered and weathered roofing materials seen at the beginning of the project.
Replacing Damaged Fascia Wood
A section of fascia wood was replaced as part of the exterior improvements to the garage. Fascia runs along the roof edge and provides an important finished surface at the perimeter of the roofing system while also serving as the mounting area for gutters.
Refreshing the Porch Roof
The smaller porch roof received the same Summit Gray shingles as the main garage, giving both sections a clean and cohesive appearance. Compared with the heavily worn roofing seen before the project, this little roof section underwent one hell of a transformation.
A Completely Refreshed Garage
The finished detached garage looks dramatically different beneath its new IKO Dynasty roof in Summit Gray. From damaged decking and aging shingles to fresh fascia and a completely renewed roofing system, the project gave this structure a much-needed upgrade. Brown Won't Let You Down!
