An Aging Roof Ready for an Upgrade
Here is a look at Russ's Wilton home before the roof replacement began. The aging two-layer roofing system showed visible weathering and discoloration and was ready for a fresh start.
Exposing the Roof Deck
Our crew removed both layers of existing roofing material, exposing the structural roof decking underneath. With the old roofing system stripped away, the team could thoroughly inspect the wood and identify any compromised areas requiring replacement.
Removing Compromised Decking
During the decking inspection, our crew identified sections of plywood showing visible deterioration. The compromised material was carefully removed to ensure the new roofing system would not be installed over damaged wood.
Installing New CDX Plywood
New CDX plywood was installed wherever deteriorated decking had been removed. These repairs created a strong, solid foundation for the waterproofing materials and new shingles that would follow.
Adding Waterproof Protection
The plywood seams were sealed with deck tape before ice and water shield was installed along vulnerable portions of the roof. These components provide an important secondary layer of protection against water intrusion beneath the finished roofing system.
Protecting the Remaining Roof Deck
Synthetic underlayment was installed across the remaining exposed decking to create an additional water-resistant barrier beneath the new shingles. With the protective layers in place, the roof was one step closer to its finished transformation.
Protecting the Bay Window Roof
The roof above the bay window received the same careful preparation and waterproofing as the larger sections of the home. Properly protecting smaller roof sections like this helps create consistent performance throughout the completed roofing system.
Ready for New Shingles
With the waterproofing components installed, the roof was fully prepared for shingle installation. Synthetic underlayment, ice and water shield, drip edge, and rake metal work together beneath the finished shingles to help protect the roof from Connecticut's changing weather.
Installing Summit Gray Shingles
Our crew began installing Russ's new IKO Dynasty shingles in Summit Gray. The dimensional gray tones provide a clean, classic appearance while giving the home a noticeably refreshed roofline.
A Fresh New Look From the Front
With the shingles and finishing details complete, Russ's home has a clean and updated appearance from the street. The new Summit Gray roof provides a versatile finish that complements the home's exterior beautifully.
The Completed Roofing Transformation
From above, we can see the completed new roofing system across the sections included in the project, while the existing porch roof remains in place. With repaired decking, updated waterproofing, and new Summit Gray shingles, the main roof is ready to provide dependable protection for years to come. Brown Won't Let You Down!
