Ridge Vents And Roof Ventilation

New Haven Ridge Vents & Roof Ventilation

One of the most overlooked parts of any roof is ventilation. While we try to keep our homes closed off to limit air leaks and maintain efficiency, your attic needs to be able to breathe and cycle air freely. An attic with poor ventilation will struggle with humidity, warping, wood rot, mold growth, and plenty of other serious issues. Likewise, it will also make your home feel hotter and make it more difficult for your air conditioner to keep you comfortable.

At Brown Roofing, we offer attic ventilation installation that will help you maintain an even, safe, and consistent level of airflow in your attic. Our crew utilizes premium parts and materials to ensure that your ventilation is both protected from rain and safe for use with pests and other challenges. We know how important it is to make sure your installation is completed properly and that mistakes can lead to major damage. When you want the peace of mind of knowing the job is done right, turn to our New Haven ridge vents and roof installation crew.

Call Brown Roofing at (203) 442-9616 today if your attic suffers with poor ventilation and let us fix the problem with high-quality, dependable construction services.

How Ridge Vents Work

Ridge vents are specially covered holes located at the peaks of your roof. Why would you want a hole in your roof? Well, to put it simply, hot air needs to be able to escape from your attic, and hot air rises to the top of wherever it is. In the case of your attic, the majority of hot air is found up at your roof’s highest point, and this is the best place to put a heat exhaust.

When combined with proper ventilation down below, an attic should have a constant, slow updraft of air. Cooler air is pulled in through vents down at your soffits. Once in your attic, it heats up due to sunlight and residual heat. Eventually, the hot air then floats upward and out through the vents at the top of your roof. Ridge vents also have a cover at the top that allows air to escape outward while preventing pests, water, and other problems from being able to seep in.

Soffit Ventilation

Ridge vents will only do so much if your attic doesn’t have a source of air that it can use to replace the air that flows out. This is the job of your soffit vents. Soffit vents are found down near the lowest points of your roof, where they allow air to be pulled into your attic from as low as possible. This ensures that the air that is pulled in is as cool as it can be, and thus keeps your attic as cool as possible.
