Before: Front View
Here's a look at Victor's roof from the front before the renovation. Click through to see how we fantastically transformed it!

Before: Moss, Lichen, & Algae
A closer look at Victor's roof reveals heavy wear on his aging three-tab shingles, an older style of asphalt shingle with a shorter lifespan. Years of moisture exposure have led to visible moss, lichen, and algae growth, further weakening the surface. It's time for an upgrade! Let's get these replaced with stronger, more modern heavyweight shingles built to last.

The Old Shingles Come Off
The crew starts things off by stripping all of the old shingles off of the roof. Underneath the old shingles is a layer of plywood called the sheathing. This is the structural foundation of the roof, and, as such, must be in excellent condition before the new roofing system can be installed. Any areas found with damage, such as rot or mold, are found and removed.

New Plywood Is Installed
Sturdy new half-inch CDX plywood sheets are installed to replace the removed sections, precisely cut and fit into place securely to ensure a strong, solid base.

Seams Are Taped and Ice and Water Shield Is Installed
Ice and water shield membrane is installed from the eaves up six feet to ensure the most vulnerable parts of the roof are fully protected from harsh elements like rain, snow, and ice. After that, the rest of the sheets of plywood are taped up at the seams with all-weather deck tape to meet current building codes.

Underlayment Completed & Drip Edge Flashing Installed
The rest of the roof is protected by durable Velora One synthetic underlayment. Along all the edges, a thin metal barrier, drip edge and rake flashing, has been installed to prevent water from seeping underneath. This flashing helps direct moisture away from the fascia and safely into the gutters.

New Shingles Are Installed
Now it's time for the exciting part: installing the new shingles! The shingles Victor has selected for his new roof are IKO Dynasty premium-laminated architectural shingles in the sleek shade of Summit Gray. These shingles, which are proudly backed by our 50-year warranty, are installed in a methodical "staircase" pattern.

Ridge Vent Is Installed
To avoid condensation issues, a ridge vent is installed to let built-up hot, humid air flow out from the attic.

Chimney Is Flashed
Flashing is installed around the chimney where it meets the roof. Like the drip edge and rake metal, this thin metal barrier prevents water from seeping into an otherwise vulnerable junction.

The Roof Is Complete
A few last details and a spotless cleanup later, Victor's roof is complete, and it looks beautiful!
