The Roof Before
Here is a look at Nancy's roof before the replacement. Swipe through to see the beautiful change!

The Teardown Begins
The crew starts things off by stripping all of the old shingles off of the roof. Before that, they hang up large tarps around the edges of the roof to collect the falling debris, making for a more efficient cleanup process as well as total protection of the homeowner's property.

The Sheathing Is Exposed
Underneath the shingles is a layer of plywood called the sheathing. This is the structural foundation of the roof.

Bad Plywood Is Removed
As the structural foundation of the roof, the health of the sheathing is essential. Any sections found with damage, like rot or mold, need to be removed.

New Plywood Is Installed
Sturdy new 1/2" CDX plywood is precisely cut to fit where it is needed and securely nailed into place. Each full sheet used is numbered for easy tracking so that the crew can accurately report back to the homeowner exactly how many sheets were required.

Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Installed
Next, the crew tapes up the seams of all of the plywood sheets with all-weather deck tape as per current building codes; and, after that, underlayment is installed over the entire surface. This is a thin, water-resistant membrane that protects the roof from harsh elements like rain, snow, and ice.

SBS Roof Base Is Installed
This section of Richard's roof is low-sloping, meaning that, per current building codes, the pitch is too gentle for shingles to be installed. Instead, a specialized SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) roof system is installed. The SBS system consists of two layers. This first layer is called the base, and it serves as the underlayment.

SBS Roof Is Finished
The top layer of the SBS roof is called the cap. Both layers are securely adhered using seam rollers and a blowtorch, ending with a seamless, polished finish.

New Shingles Are Installed
Now it's time to install the new shingles! Brown Roofing proudly installs premium-laminated, heavyweight IKO Dynasty shingles for all roofs backed by our 50-year guarantee. For her new roof, Nancy has selected the sleek shade of Frostone Gray to perfectly complement her home.

Ridge Vent Is Installed
A shingle vent is installed along all ridges of the roof to ensure proper airflow. By letting hot, humid air that rises inside of the house escape, potential damaging condensation buildup is greatly reduced.

The Roof After
After a few finishing touches, Nancy's new roof is officially complete!
