The Roof Before
Here's what Michael's roof looked like before we renovated it. Swipe through to see the fantastic transformation!
Before: Messy Missing Shingles
A closer look shows the worn chimney and several missing or torn three-tab shingles - clear signs that the roof had reached the end of its lifespan. Let's fix that!
Sleek New Chimney
Before roofing began, our expert masons repointed the chimney from the roofline up, giving it a clean, solid, watertight finish. Now it's ready for the new roof!
The Teardown Begins
The crew kicks things off by carefully stripping all the old shingles. Large tarps are hung around the home to protect the property and catch debris for an efficient cleanup.
Bad Plywood Is Removed
With the shingles removed, the plywood decking - the structural foundation of the roof - is fully exposed. The crew thoroughly examines it for signs of rot, mold, or decay, removing any compromised sections.
New Plywood Is Installed
All damaged decking is replaced with brand-new CDX plywood, ensuring a strong and secure base for the new roofing system.
Seams Are Taped and Ice-and-Water Shield Is Installed
Each plywood seam is sealed with all-weather deck tape to meet building codes. SealoronXT ice-and-water shield is installed from the eaves up six feet, as well as in all valleys and around roof penetrations, to protect the most vulnerable areas from moisture.
Underlayment Is Completed
The rest of the decking is covered in Velora One synthetic underlayment, creating a breathable yet highly water-resistant barrier.
New Shingles Are Installed
Time for new shingles! Michael chose the warm, durable Brownstone shade from the IKO Dynasty collection. These Impact-3 rated architectural shingles are proudly backed by our 50-year Brown Roofing warranty.
Ridge Vent Is Installed
A ridge vent is installed along the peak of the roof, allowing hot, humid air rising from inside the home to escape and preventing damaging condensation buildup.
The Roof After
After final touches and a full cleanup, Michael's new roof is complete - and it looks phenomenal!
