Photo Album: Cos Cob, CT Clean & Classy Roof Replacement

Cos Cob homeowner Michael reached out to Brown Roofing after noticing his aging roof was well past its prime. Inspector Brian performed a detailed evaluation and confirmed that the roof needed full replacement due to widespread wear, moss growth, and compromised decking. After reviewing our process and materials, Michael felt confident choosing Brown Roofing for the job. Project Manager Austin and the crew removed all the old shingles and replaced damaged sections of plywood with strong new CDX panels. The team then installed a full underlayment system — including SealoronXT ice-and-water shield and Velora One synthetic underlayment — along with new drip edge and rake metal flashing for complete edge protection. The roof was finished with IKO Dynasty shingles in Michael’s chosen Frostone Gray, as well as brand-new chimney flashing and a ridge vent for proper ventilation. The Roof Before

The Decking

The crew began by removing all of the old shingles. Underneath them is a layer of plywood called the sheathing, which must be in solid condition for a proper roofing system.

Bad Plywood Is Removed

Any sections of sheathing found with rot, mold, or deterioration were carefully removed to ensure a healthy structural foundation.

New Plywood Is Installed

Strong new CDX plywood was installed to replace the damaged areas. Each sheet was numbered so the crew could accurately report to the homeowner exactly how many new sheets were used.

Seams Are Taped and Ice and Water Shield Is Installed

All plywood seams were sealed with all-weather deck tape to meet building codes. SealoronXT ice-and-water shield was applied from the eaves up six feet and throughout all valleys, providing maximum protection in the roof's most vulnerable areas.

Underlayment Completed & Edge Installed

Velora One synthetic underlayment was installed over the remaining decking, forming a breathable yet water-resistant barrier. Drip edge and rake metal flashing were added along all roof edges to prevent water intrusion and guide runoff properly.

New Shingles Go On

Time for shingles! Michael chose the stunning Frostone Gray from our IKO Dynasty collection. These Impact-3 rated architectural shingles are backed by our 50-year Brown Roofing warranty.

Ridge Vent & Cap Are Installed

A ridge vent was added along the highest part of the roof to allow hot, humid air to escape, preventing damaging condensation buildup inside the attic.
