The Roof Before
Here is a look at Robert and Tammy's roof before the renovation. Those dark streaks are roof algae, signs of shingle deterioration due to moisture and debris buildup over a long period of time. Swipe through to see the beautiful transformation!
The Teardown Begins
The crew kicks things off by carefully stripping all of the old shingles off of the roof. Large tarps are hung up and laid out to catch the falling debris as well as fully protect the homeowner's property from potential damage.
New Plywood Is Installed
Underneath the shingles is a layer of plywood called the sheathing. This is the structural foundation of the roof, and, as such, must be in tip-top condition before the new roofing system is installed. Any areas found with damage, suck as rot, decay, or mold, are removed and replaced with strong new CDX plywood.
Seams Are Taped & Ice-and-Water Shield Is Installed
The seams of each sheet of plywood are taped up with all-weather deck tape as per current building codes. Ice-and-water shield membrane is adhered from the eaves up six feet as well as along all vulnerable areas such as valleys.
The Rest of the Underlayment Is Installed
The rest of the sheathing is covered in Velora One underlayment paper, completely securing the surface from damaging elements like rain, wind, snow, and ice.
New Shingles Are Installed
Now it's time for the new shingles! For their new roof, Robert and Tammy have selected the spectacular shade of Granite Black from our fantastic IKO Dynasty collection. These strong, architectural shingles are proudly backed by Brown Roofing's 50-year warranty.
Ridge Vent Is Installed
A ridge vent is installed along the highest points of the roof to allow for hot, humid air rising from inside of the house a way to escape, eliminating damaging condensation buildup.
New Flashing Is Installed on the Chimney
A thin metal barrier is installed on the side of the chimney where it meets the roof. This is called the flashing. It is sealed with strong caulk to ensure a solid and watertight layer over what would otherwise be a vulnerable area.
The Roof After
With the final details complete and the property spotless, Robert and Tammy's roof is officially done and looking fantastic.
