Before: Aerial View
This aerial view of Vernie's roof reveals several missing three-tab shingles: a clear sign the roof has reached the end of its life. It's time to replace those worn shingles with durable new ones designed to stay strong and resilient for years to come.
The Teardown Begins
The crew gets started by carefully stripping all of the old shingles off of the roof. Before they begin, they hang up large tarps around the edges of the roof to collect the falling debris, leading to a more efficient cleanup process as well as providing protection from any potential damage to the homeowner's property.
The Sheathing Is Examined
Underneath the old shingles is a layer of plywood called the decking. This is the structural foundation of the roof, and, as such, must be in tip-top condition before the new roofing system can be installed. The crew closely inspects the entire surface for any evidence of damage, such as rot, decay, or mold.
Seams Are Taped and Ice and Water Shield Is Installed
The crew found that Vernie's decking was still in excellent condition, and none of the plywood needed to be replaced. They moved onto the next step: taping up all of the seams of the plywood sheets with all-weather deck tape as per current building codes. Ice and water shield membrane is adhered from the eaves up six feet as well as alone vulnerable areas like valleys to ensure the utmost protection from damaging elements like rain, snow, and ice.
Underlayment Completed & Drip Edge Flashing Installed
Velora One synthetic underlayment is installed over the rest of the surface, ensuring a waterproof seal for the decking. A thin metal barrier called the rake metal and drip edge flashing is installed along the edges of the roof to prevent water from seeping under, directing the water away from the fascia and instead towards the gutters.
The New Shingles Go On
Now it's time for the exciting part: installing the new shingles! For her new roof, Vernie has selected the elegant Atlantic Blue shade from our IKO Dynasty collection. These beautiful architectural shingles are proudly backed by Brown's 50-year warranty.
Ridge Vent Is Installed
A ridge vent is installed along the highest parts of the roof. This vent allows hot, humid air that rises from inside of the house a way to escape, eliminating damaging condensation buildup inside of the attic.
The Roof Is Complete
After a few finishing touches and a thorough clean-up of the entire property, Vernie's new roof is officially complete!
The Fantastic Finished Product
