The Teardown Begins
The crew starts things off by carefully stripping off all of the old shingles. Before the teardown begins, the crew hangs up large tarps around the edges of the roof to catch falling debris, making for a speedier cleanup process as well as ensuring full protection of the homeowner's property.

Bad Plywood Is Removed
Underneath the old shingles is a layer of plywood called the decking. This is the structural foundation of the roof, and as such, the health of the decking is essential to the integrity of the new roof. The crew meticulously checks the decking for any signs of damage, like rot or mold, and removes any affected pieces.

New Plywood Is Installed
Durable new 1/2" CDX plywood replaces the removed sections and is securely nailed into place, ensuring a solid base. Each sheet used is numbered for easy tracking so that the crew can accurately report back to the homeowner on exactly how many new sheets were used in the project.

Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Installed
With the new plywood securely nailed into place, the seams of every sheet of plywood are taped up with all-weather deck tape. After that, underlayment is installed over the entire surface. This thin, waterproof membrane protects the sheathing from harmful elements like rain, snow, and ice.

New Shingles & Ridge Vent Are Installed
After the underlayment is fully installed, the crew installs strong new IKO Dynasty shingles in Justin's chosen shade of Granite Black. Next, a shingle vent is installed along the ridge of the roof. This vent allows for healthy air circulation by letting hot, moist air that rises from inside of the house a way to escape, preventing damaging condensation buildup.

New Flashing for the Chimney
New flashing is installed around the edges of the chimney where it meets the roof. This thin metal barrier prevents water from seeping into the junction and causing moisture damage.

The Finished Product
The crew wrapped things up with a few last steps and a full cleanup, and now Justin's new roof is all set!
