Before: Worn Shingles
A closer look at Robert's old roof shows how worn down his shingles have become over the course of many years faring in the Connecticut weather. Let's get started on that new roof!
The Teardown Begins
The crew starts things off by carefully tearing all of the old shingles off of the roof. Before the teardown officially starts, the crew hangs up large tarps around the edges of the roof to ensure that the property is completely protected from falling debris as well as make the cleanup process far more efficient.
The Sheathing Is Examined
Underneath the old shingles is a layer of plywood called the sheathing. This is the structural foundation of the roof. The crew closely inspects the entire surface for any evidence of damage, like rot or mold.
New Plywood Is Installed
Any damaged sections are promptly removed and replaced with brand-new, sturdy CDX plywood. Each new sheet used is numbered for easy tracking so that the crew can accurately report back to the homeowner exactly how much new plywood was used.
Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Installed
The seams of each plywood sheet is taped up with all-weather deck tape as a measure of added reinforcement. After that, the underlayment is installed. This thin, water-resistant membrane protects the sheathing from harsh elements like rain, wind, ice, and snow, and it is applied over the entire surface.
New Shingles Are Installed
Now it's time to install the new shingles! Brown Roofing proudly uses premium-laminated IKO Dynasty shingles for all roofs backed by our 50-year warranty. For his roof, Robert has selected the beautiful shade of Summit Gray to perfectly complement his light-sided home.
Ridge Vent Is Installed
A vent is installed along the ridge of the roof. This vent encourages proper airflow by allowing the hot, moist air that rises from inside of the house a way to escape, preventing damaging condensation buildup.
