Here's a look at Hubert and Karen's roof before the replacement. Click through to see the awesome transformation!

The Teardown
The crew starts the process by tearing off all of the old shingles. This reveals the plywood layer underneath, which is called the sheathing. This is the structural foundation of the roof, and, as such, must be in tip-top condition before the new shingles can be installed. So, after all of the old shingles are off, the crew will closely examine the entire surface for any evidence of damage, such as rot or mold.

Seams Are Taped & New Underlayment Is Installed
The crew determined that the sheathing was in excellent condition and none of the plywood needed to be replaced! It's time to get started on the next step: taping up all of the seams of each sheet of plywood with all-weather deck tape. After that, underlayment is installed over the entire surface. This thin, waterproof material protects the roof from harsh elements that could cause moisture damage, such as rain, snow, and ice.

Ready for New Shingles
After all of the underlayment is installed, a drip edge flashing is nailed into place around all of the edges of the roof. This thin metal barrier prevents water from seeping into the roof, instead directing it away from the fascia and into the gutters. Now we're ready to install the new shingles!

New Shingles
For their new roof, Hubert and Karen have selected the ever-popular shade of Granite Black from our premium-laminated IKO Dynasty collection to perfectly complement their white siding.
