The Brown Roofing team was thrilled to assist Barry in Southbury with his total house makeover, which included not only a new roof but also a brand-new gutter system. Barry’s old gutters had been worn down, clogged easily, and damaged by harsh Connecticut storms. He chose a 6K gutter system, which is 6 inches wide - larger than the standard 5K gutters - and ideal for handling more water runoff, perfect for areas with heavy rainfall. To top it off, our team installed a wide-mouth outlet, four times larger than the standard, ensuring optimal water flow. Now, Barry can rest easy knowing his premium gutters are expertly installed and clog-free guaranteed. Brown Won't Let You Down!

Amazing home transformation - New Siding, Roof, and Gutters

When we arrived at the Willis' home, we immediately noticed heavy moss coverage all around the house on the siding, and even some on the roof. The moss and algae had stripped away the UV protective layer, causing the color to fade on both the siding and roof. The absence of this layer also accelerated the aging process and could potentially lead to issues with the house in the near future. Additionally, we observed that the gutters were in poor condition and needed replacement.

After our team inspected the house, we provided the customer with a quote to replace the roof, siding, and gutters. Upon receiving approval from Mr. Willis, we began the work by focusing on the roof. Once we removed the old shingles, we assessed the decking layer and found it to be in decent shape, requiring only a few sheets to be replaced. This resulted in cost savings for Mr. Willis. Following the installation of the decking layer, we applied ice and water protection, along with an underlayment to serve as an additional weather barrier. Finally, we installed the chosen IKO Dynasty Granite Black Shingles, along with flashings.

Next on the agenda was the gutter replacement. The existing gutters were inadequate in diverting water away from the house and were prone to frequent clogging. We replaced them with our Gutter Shutter White Gutters. Finally, we fully replaced the old shake siding with Cider Peaks Sea Slate Blue Siding.

After just two days, the entire house underwent a remarkable transformation, shifting from a moss-covered and aged appearance to a bright, new, and stunning one. With the new roof, gutters, and siding in place, the Willis family can be confident in their home's protection against whatever challenges Mother Nature may present.

Remarkable roof replacement and transformation in Meriden, CT

When our team arrived at the Muniz family home we instantly saw the damages and they were extreme. We could already see multiple things from the street and we knew that this roof was in rough shape without even getting on the roof. This roof definitely needed a closer inspection so we got up there, we saw an insane amount of rot and lichen. From the street, the original color of the singles looked to be light gray but it was actually a darker shade. The reason it was so light was because all of the shingles were covered in lichen.

Once we worked out the details with the family we got to work tearing up the old roof and decking layer. Demo on the roof went quickly because of the rotten shingles, when it was time to replace the decking layer it was a little more challenging because the original roof used a wood shake style decking layer and this was outdated and rotted. This definitely needed to be replaced. The new decking layer that we put down was of plywood and this was a lot more watertight and resistant than the wood shake design which had large gaps between each piece of wood.

Now that all the damaged pieces were either removed or replaced we were ready to start putting down new material. We started by taping all the seams in between the sheets of plywood. Next, we lay down Ice and Water along all the edges and valleys. This helps seal the roof even more in areas water likes to sit or in high-flow areas. Next is the underlayment, which is laid over the rest of the roof that's not covered by the Ice and Water, and these two layers overlay some.

With all the underlayers done, we can start working on laying the shingles down. The Muniz’s wanted to go with our IKO Dynasty IR Glacier Shingles. These shingles were a perfect match to the rest of the house and a definite upgrade to the old roof.

Within one short day, we were able to tear down the original roof and decking layer and replace them with quality materials, and unmatched craftsmanship. Their brand-new roof comes with a 50-year warranty, ensuring they will have a beautiful, safe, and dry roof for a very long time.

Stunning roof transformation and repair in Ansonia, CT

This home was in good condition for its age and there were no major problems with the roof, on the surface that is. This customer contacted us asking for a quote because they knew their roof was nearing the end of its life cycle and wanted to see what it would cost them. When Geoffrey one of the members of our team, went out to survey the home and give a quote he noticed that there was water damage below the shingles but that there were no signs of this on the exterior of the home.

This was strange but not unheard of and it was most likely due to the location of the home. When water gets under the shingles and sits for a while it creates a perfect environment for algae, moss, and lichen to grow. The two major conditions that these need to grow are water and shade. So there is water but since the home was in direct sunlight for about eighty percent of the day the plant growth could not take hold. This was good and bad in a few ways. It was good because less damage was caused, but if this was not caught early there could have been some serious damage done to the home. The plant growth is a blessing in disguise because it usually alerts the homeowner that there is something wrong with the roof.

So what did we do to fix it, we first started by ripping up all the old shingles in order to properly assess the damage. Once we got a good look at the decking layer below we were certain that the leak in the roof was only caused by old age and not damaged shingles.

The next step was to repair the damages and to do this we replaced all the rotting sheets of plywood and replaced them with brand new sheets. Once this was done we moved on to installing decking tape, Sealeron Ice and Water, and a synthetic underlayment. These three materials act as an extra layer of protection for the roof and in the event of a shingle puncture, this layer will help seal the roof until the damage can be remedied.

Finally, we can install the shingles and this customer decided on our IKO Dynasty Frostone Gray Shingles, which matched perfectly with their siding and black shutters. When installing shingles we start from the bottom edge and work our way up. As we work our way up we install flashings around all the openings in the roof like vents and chimneys, we also install them anywhere shingles meet siding.  Within the day this homeowner had a brand new beautiful roof that will last a lifetime and is under warranty for 50 years!

Roof repair and replacement on this school in Bethany, CT

This school in Bethany called us out due to leaks and water stains on the roof. There was also an extreme amount of algae, lichen, and color fade. There were also a few repair patches that were extremely questionable, these patches looked as if shingles were just laid on top of the leak. There were nails exposed which means water would still be able to seep through the nail hole. On top of this, there were many rolled and damaged shingles, and nail pops were frequent on this roof. All of these issues were primarily caused by old age and poor craftsmanship. Anyone can have the best materials in the world but if they are not installed properly they are useless.

The first step to this replacement was ripping up all the damaged shingles and inspecting the decking layer below. Due to the damage to the shingle, a significant amount of moisture was able to seep through to the decking layer causing it to rot warranting us to replace almost every sheet.

After this was done we moved on to the sealing layer, which consists of three materials that work together to create a waterproof yet breathable layer. Strip tape is the first to go down and this is applied to all the seams and edges. Next is our Sealeron Ice and Water, which is laid down on the edges of the roof, along any walls and edges. Lastly, we installed our synthetic underlayment over any uncovered surface. These three layers not only stop moisture from penetrating the wood decking layer but also act as a second layer of insulation for the house creating a more energy-efficient environment.

Lastly, we install the shingles and flashings, we install flashings around any openings in the roof like chimneys, skylights, and certain vents. After this we start on the shingles, when installing shingles we always start on the bottom-most corner and work our way up and across the roof ensuring that the shingles are layered properly. Once we reach the top of the roof we install our ridge vent and ridge cap shingles, both of which are hand-nailed to ensure that they are not over-compressed.

Our day was not over yet, even though the roof was done we still had cleanup to do. We started by picking up the obvious large pieces and then moved on to sweeping the entire workspace with a magnetic broom to pick up any nails or debris. Once the customer approved the clean-up and roof our day was over.

Brand new roof on this home in Wallingford, CT

This home’s roof was suffering from algae growth along with lichen. Although this roof had minimal damage and was in relatively good condition this homeowner made the right decision to replace their roof as it was close to 25 years old. With the technology and practices used when this roof was built, it is fair to say that this roof was nearing the end of its life. Preventative maintenance like this could save you anywhere from thousands to tens of thousands of dollars, especially when dealing with your home.

The first step to any roof replacement is to remove the existing layer of shingles and further inspect the decking layer below. The decking layer in this home was in surprisingly good condition and we were able to reuse it and save the customer money.

Next, we retaped the decking layer with our own Sealeron Deck Tape. This tape seals all the seams that are created from the plywood along with any other seams like rake and drip metal to plywood. After that, we lay down our Sealeron Ice and Water over all the eaves, rake edges, overhangs, and valleys. We also wrap the Ice and Water down behind the gutters to ensure that no wind-driven rain gets underneath the shingles. Lastly, we lay down a synthetic underlayment over any remaining uncovered areas. The combination of these three materials creates and watertight yet breathable layer.

Finally, we can install the shingles and this customer decided on our IKO Dynasty Shadow Brown Shingles. When installing shingles it is important to always start at the bottommost corner of the roof to ensure that they are layered properly. As we make our way up the roof we install flashings around any openings like chimneys and vents and depending on the opening we use different materials. For example, for a chimney flashing we use copper or lead flashings but for a Perma-Boot, we use our Ice and Water.

With the roof finished and sealed, this customer now has a new, secure roof that promises safety for the next 50 years, ensuring lasting peace of mind.

Southbury, CT Builder Trusts Brown Roofing for His Own Home

Southbury homeowners Colin and Cheryl reached out to Brown Roofing when their roof, which was over 25 years old, began to seriously deteriorate. Shingles were falling off, and as a seasoned builder, Colin quickly spotted deeper issues. He noticed right away that their existing roof lacked critical components like drip edge flashing and ice-and-water shield, basic elements that every high-quality roofing system should have. To make matters more urgent, their insurance company had also mandated a full roof replacement.

Knowing they needed a roofing company that truly understood quality and longevity, Colin and Cheryl were confident they had found the right team with Brown Roofing. Inspector Chase visited the property, confirmed Colin’s findings, and worked closely with the couple to put together a customized plan for not just one, but two new roofs: one for the main home and another for their nearby guest house.

Once the details were finalized, Project Manager Austin and his expert crew got to work. They began by carefully removing all of the old shingles and assessing the decking underneath. To meet current building codes and ensure maximum strength, the crew taped every seam of the plywood sheets before installing a full-coverage system of ice-and-water shield and synthetic underlayment. Then, they finished both roofs with our premium IKO Dynasty architectural shingles in the sleek and versatile Brownstone shade.

Now, Colin and Cheryl can feel confident that their home is protected by a roof that’s not only beautiful, but also engineered to stand the test of time, backed by our industry-leading 50-year warranty. And best of all, their insurance company is satisfied, too.

25-Year-Old Roof Replaced with Premium Protection in Prospect, CT

Homeowner Ronald in Prospect reached out to us about replacing the aging roof on his home, which had held up for over 25 years. He wanted something solid, modern, and built to last. Inspector Chase headed out to meet with him and conducted a thorough inspection of the existing roof. After reviewing his findings with Ronald, Chase explained the step-by-step process Brown Roofing follows: one that prioritizes quality craftsmanship, durable materials, and long-lasting protection. Ronald felt confident moving forward, and we were excited to get started.

Project Manager Bill and his crew arrived and got straight to work. They carefully removed the old shingles and inspected the plywood decking underneath. Any damaged or compromised areas, such as sections with rot or mold, were removed and replaced with strong, reliable CDX plywood to create a sturdy foundation.

Next, they installed a full layer of protective underlayment to safeguard the deck from rain, snow, and ice. Then came the highlight: a new roof finished with IKO Dynasty premium-laminated shingles in the warm, earthy tone of Shadow Brown, backed by our 50-year warranty for peace of mind that lasts.

One section of Ronald’s roof had a low slope, which meant traditional shingles weren’t up to the task of draining water properly. For that area, the team installed a trusted SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) membrane system using Polyglass Elastoflex, a waterproofing solution designed specifically for low-sloping sections.

Now, Ronald’s home is protected top to bottom with a roof that’s not only code-compliant and weather-ready, but built to stay that way for decades to come.

Chimney Rebuild Ahead of Roof Replacement in Milford, CT

Homeowner Brandon in Milford reached out to Brown Roofing looking to replace both his aging roof and deteriorating chimney. Inspector Geoff visited the property, conducted a full inspection, and provided a comprehensive quote for both projects. Brandon was confident in our team’s expertise and chose to move forward.

The chimney rebuild was completed first. This is an important step, as chimney demolition and construction can risk damaging a new roof if done afterward. Brandon’s original chimney, constructed from concrete, showed signs of wear and instability, and the flashing around its base was also in poor condition.

Our skilled masonry team removed the old chimney and got to work building a brand-new one from the ground up. Brick by brick, they constructed a structurally sound and visually appealing new chimney. The project included full repointing, the installation of a freshly poured concrete crown, and reinstallation of the original chimney cap.

With the chimney now fully rebuilt and ready for new flashing, Brandon's roof replacement is the next step, soon to be completed by our expert crew using premium materials built to last!

Proactive Protection: Full Roof Replacement in Cheshire, CT

Cheshire homeowner Jason contacted Brown Roofing knowing his roof was nearing the end of its life. While there were no active leaks, he had noticed signs of wear and wanted to be proactive in protecting his home before any real issues developed.

Inspector Austin visited the property and conducted a full inspection. He noted signs of moisture damage beneath the shingles, as well as general wear from age and exposure to the elements. Though the roof was still holding up, Austin recommended a full replacement to prevent future leaks and structural issues. This is a smart move that could save Jason significant time and cost down the road.

After discussing Brown Roofing’s process, premium materials, and industry-leading 50-year warranty, Jason felt confident moving forward with the project.

Project Manager Austin and his experienced crew took the lead. They began by carefully removing the existing shingles and underlayment, exposing the plywood decking beneath. Each section of sheathing was closely inspected, and any areas with rot or damage were replaced with brand-new half-inch CDX plywood, ensuring a strong and stable base for the new roof system.

To meet Connecticut’s building codes and provide excellent water protection, the team installed six feet of leak barrier (ice and water shield) along the eaves, as well as in valleys and around all roof penetrations. They applied deck seam tape to all plywood joints to create a fully sealed surface and added Velora One synthetic underlayment across the remainder of the roof for enhanced weather resistance and durability.

With the underlayment complete, it was time for the final layer: IKO Dynasty architectural shingles in Shadow Brown, a rich, earthy tone that complements Jason’s home while delivering high-performance weather protection. These shingles feature ArmourZone technology, offering exceptional fastening strength and wind resistance up to 130 mph.

To ensure proper ventilation and prolong the roof’s lifespan, a continuous ridge vent was installed at the peak, and all flashings, including around pipe boots and other penetrations, were carefully sealed and replaced as needed.

Now, Jason’s Cheshire home is not only equipped with a beautiful new roof but one that’s built to withstand New England’s unpredictable weather for decades to come.

Derby, CT Invests in a Roof Built to Last

Joe, a homeowner in Derby, reached out to Brown Roofing knowing his aging roof had reached the end of its lifespan. Inspector Rick visited the property to conduct a thorough assessment and confirmed that the roof was due for replacement. After learning about our high-quality roofing systems and long-term warranties, Joe chose to move forward with Brown Roofing, confident in both the products and the team behind them.

Project Manager Noel and his experienced crew got to work, beginning with a full tear-off of the old roofing system. The crew carefully evaluated the condition of each plank and replaced any damaged ones with properly cut and fitted CDX plywood, ensuring a strong and stable foundation for the new roof.

Once the decking was secured, they installed six feet of ice and water shield at the eaves, taped all plywood seams to meet building code requirements, and then covered the entire surface with durable Velora One synthetic underlayment. Next, drip edge and rake metal flashing were installed along all roof edges for added protection.

For the shingles, Joe selected IKO Dynasty in the timeless shade of Shadow Brown, a choice that delivers both exceptional performance and curb appeal, backed by a 50-year warranty. North Haven homeowner Elaine contacted Brown Roofing when she noticed her roof was showing signs of age, specifically lifting shingles and exposed nails. These are common indicators that a roof is nearing the end of its life, and she wanted to address the issue before it turned into something more serious.

Inspector Darwin visited the property for a full assessment and confirmed that a replacement was the best option. He explained Brown Roofing’s process, materials, and industry-leading warranties. Elaine felt confident in our experience and professionalism, and chose to move forward with the project.

Project Manager Connor and his expert crew arrived ready to work. They began by removing the old shingles and inspecting the plywood decking beneath. Many of the existing sheets showed signs of wear or damage, so the crew replaced them to ensure a strong, stable foundation for the new roofing system.

Next, they installed six feet of ice and water shield up from the eaves, protecting the home from water intrusion during snow and ice buildup. To comply with building codes and add another layer of defense, they sealed all plywood seams with deck tape. Insurance Claim Leads to a Modern Roof Upgrade in Shelton, CT After Storm Damage

Shelton homeowner Matt hadn’t been looking for a new roof until Inspector Chase from Brown Roofing reached out. Chase had identified storm damage to Matt’s roof, and with an active insurance claim already in progress, it was the perfect time to take action. After learning about our materials, process, and 50-year warranty, Matt was confident choosing Brown Roofing for the job!

Project Manager Bill and his expert crew got to work by removing the old shingles and inspecting the decking underneath. They uncovered tongue-and-groove planks: a dated style of sheathing made from individual wood boards. While common in older homes, this decking isn’t strong enough to support today’s modern roofing systems. Our team installed half-inch CDX plywood over the entire surface to create a clean, solid foundation.

Next came six feet of ice and water shield along the eaves for extra storm protection, followed by taped seams and Velora One synthetic underlayment to complete the weatherproofing layer. With that in place, the crew added new drip edge and rake metal flashing, then installed IKO Dynasty shingles in Summit Gray, one of our most popular colors for its sleek, classic finish and Impact 3-rated durability. In addition to the main roof, the crew also installed a small section of SBS modified bitumen roofing: a durable, rubberized system ideal for low-slope areas where traditional shingles aren’t suitable.

The job was finished with a ridge vent for proper attic ventilation and expertly sealed flashing. Matt now has a beautiful, high-performance roof built to handle New England weather for decades to come!

Leaking Roof Tarped and Fully Replaced with a Fantastic 50-Year Warranty in East Haven, CT

When Frank, a homeowner in East Haven, noticed a persistent leak making its way into his bedroom, he knew it was time to take action. While he waited for some incoming funds, he called Brown Roofing to help stop the damage from getting worse. Inspector Oneil arrived promptly to assess the situation and immediately got a tarp installed to prevent further water intrusion, a critical first step in protecting the home while planning the full replacement.

During the inspection, Oneil walked Frank through our detailed roofing process and the top-tier materials we use on every job. Frank felt confident in our team and decided to move forward with us, and we were honored to help!

Once it was time to replace the roof, Project Manager Carlos and his expert crew got to work. They began by removing the old, worn shingles and inspecting the underlying wooden decking, known as the sheathing. Any sections of the plywood showing signs of damage, like rot or mold, were replaced with durable half-inch CDX plywood to form a solid foundation.

Next, the crew applied six feet of ice and water shield from the eaves upward, taping all seams with all-weather deck tape to meet local building codes. Velora One synthetic underlayment was then installed across the rest of the surface to provide superior protection under the shingles.

Around the roof’s perimeter, drip edge and rake metal flashing were installed to ensure water is directed safely into the gutters, keeping the structure dry and damage-free. Once the foundation was secure, it was time for shingles. Frank chose IKO Dynasty shingles in the striking shade of Summit Gray, a sleek, modern look that complements any home. His new roof is also backed by The Brown Promise: our 50-year warranty for lasting performance.

A Reliable New Roof for Ed in Naugatuck, CT

After spotting one of our door hangers, Naugatuck homeowner Ed reached out to Brown Roofing for a full roof replacement. Inspector Coleton visited the home and quickly identified the issue: years of weather exposure had caused significant moisture damage, which was visibly staining the shingles and compromising the roof’s integrity.

Coleton walked Ed through our step-by-step process and the high-quality materials we use on every job. Feeling confident in our approach, Ed decided to move forward, and we were honored to get to work!

Project Manager Bill and his expert crew were assigned to the job. They began by removing all the old shingles and inspecting the foundation underneath, known as the sheathing. In this case, Ed’s roof had plank sheathing: individual wooden planks instead of plywood. The crew carefully removed all damaged planks and replaced them with custom-cut CDX plywood, ensuring a strong, secure base for the new roofing system.

With the sheathing secured, the team installed ice and water shield up six feet from the eaves and laid down Velora One synthetic underlayment across the rest of the surface. Around the perimeter, they installed new drip edge and rake metal flashing to direct water away from the fascia and into the gutters, crucial for long-term performance.

Ed chose IKO Dynasty shingles in the sleek shade of Granite Black, one of the most popular color choices. Backed by The Brown Promise, his new roof now carries a 50-year warranty for peace of mind that lasts.

To complete the project, the crew added a ridge vent along the peak of the roof, allowing hot, humid air to escape and preventing damaging attic condensation. Ridge cap shingles were installed on top, giving the entire system a polished and seamless finish.

After carefully sealing all roof penetrations and performing a full property cleanup, Ed’s brand-new roof is officially complete, looking beautiful and ready to protect his home for decades to come!

New Roof and Upgraded Gutters for a Happy Beacon Falls, CT Homeowner

Craig, a homeowner in Beacon Falls, reached out to Brown Roofing for an estimate on gutter cleaning. His gutters had been clogging and overflowing, and he wanted to make sure everything was flowing properly. Inspector John went out to take a look and discovered more than just full gutters. In addition to recommending a larger six-inch gutter system to better handle debris and water flow, John also spotted moisture damage and significant shingle deterioration on the home’s lower main roof. He walked Craig through our process, materials, and options for addressing both concerns. After learning more, Craig felt confident moving forward with a full roof replacement for the lower roof, and we were glad to get started!

Project Manager Bill and his expert crew handled the roofing portion of the project. They began by removing the worn-out shingles and thoroughly inspecting the underlying plywood foundation, known as the sheathing. Any damaged areas, like sections with rot or mold, were replaced with strong half-inch CDX plywood to ensure a solid and reliable base.

With the sheathing secure, the team installed ice and water shield six feet up from the eaves, taped all seams with all-weather deck tape to meet building code, and laid Velora One synthetic underlayment over the rest of the roof deck. Drip edge and rake metal flashing were then installed to protect the perimeter, directing water away from the fascia and safely into the gutters.

To match the rest of the house, Craig chose IKO Dynasty shingles in Granite Black, durable, beautiful, and backed by The Brown Promise, our 50-year warranty.

Once the roof was completed, our gutter crew came in to finish the job. They installed brand-new six-inch gutters, providing Craig’s home with improved water flow and reduced clogging potential, an upgrade that’s both functional and sleek.

After a final walkthrough, cleanup, and attention to all finishing details, Craig’s roof and gutter system is officially complete, looking fantastic and ready to keep his home safe, dry, and flowing smoothly for years to come!

A Notable New Roof Replacement in New Haven, CT

When New Haven homeowner Al decided to renovate the home he had recently purchased from a family member, he knew he wanted to start from the top down, beginning with the roof. He called Brown Roofing for a full roof replacement, and we were happy to help keep this cherished home in great shape for the next generation.

Inspector Geoff visited the property and provided a thorough inspection. The roof had clearly outlived its lifespan, and Geoff walked Al through our entire process and materials. After learning what to expect, Al felt confident moving forward with us.

Project Manager Bill and his expert crew got to work. They began by removing the old shingles and inspecting the sheathing underneath, which is the structural base of the roofing system. Al’s roof had what’s called skip sheathing, where planks are spaced apart to allow airflow. This older style, once common, can’t support the heavier, more durable modern shingles used today. So the crew installed solid CDX plywood over the entire surface to create a strong foundation.

With the new base in place, the team installed ice and water shield from the eaves up six feet, sealed all seams with all-weather deck tape to meet building codes, and then covered the rest of the roof with Velora One synthetic underlayment. Drip edge and rake metal flashing were added to help guide water away from the roof and into the gutters.

Al selected Dual Black from our IKO Cambridge shingle collection, which is proudly backed by a 25-year warranty. A ridge vent was installed next to promote proper attic ventilation and reduce the risk of moisture damage. Ridge cap shingles followed to give the roof a seamless, finished look.

After carefully flashing around all pipes and the chimney and performing a full cleanup of the property, Al’s roof was officially complete, looking sharp and ready to protect his home as it stays in the family for the long haul!

Full Roof Replacement for a New Homeowner in Hamden, CT

When Hamden homeowner Jessie moved into her new house, she quickly noticed two concerns: the home was missing proper soffits, and the bathroom vent pipe wasn’t functioning correctly. She called Brown Roofing to take a look, and Inspector Brian was on site soon after. After his inspection, he walked Jessie through our process and materials. Confident in the solution we provided, she decided to move forward with a full roof replacement, and we were so glad she did!

Project Manager Connor and his expert crew got to work. They removed the old shingles and inspected the underlying structure, known as the sheathing. Any damaged sections, whether from rot, mold, or age, were removed and replaced with strong half-inch CDX plywood, ensuring a solid foundation for the new roof system.

Once the sheathing was secured, the team installed ice and water shield from the eaves up six feet, sealed the seams with all-weather deck tape according to building codes, and covered the rest with Velora One synthetic underlayment. Drip edge and rake metal flashing were added next to guide water away from the roof and into the gutter system, protecting the edges from moisture damage.

Jessie chose the sleek, modern shade of Summit Gray from our IKO Dynasty shingle collection, backed by The Brown Promise: our 50-year warranty. The same thorough process was followed for the smaller portico roof above her front door. In the back of the home, there was a small low-slope section that required a different approach: we installed an SBS-modified roofing membrane there, designed specifically to perform better on flatter surfaces where traditional shingles aren’t effective.

To improve attic airflow and prevent moisture buildup, a ridge vent was installed at the peak of the roof, paired with brand-new soffits to allow for full circular ventilation. Ridge cap shingles were placed on top of the ridge vent for a clean, finished look.

After a few more finishing touches, like flashing around all vent pipes and the chimney, and a full cleanup of the property, Jessie’s roof was complete. It now looks beautiful, functions flawlessly, and is ready to protect her new home through every season ahead.

Naugatuck, CT Portico Roof Replacement for Returning Customer After 18 Years

Naugatuck, CT homeowner George contacted Brown Roofing after experiencing a leak over his front porch. The small roof covering the entryway, known as a portico roof, had been installed 18 years earlier by Brown Roofing’s founder, Gary Brown. After nearly two decades of protecting the home, the portico roof had reached the end of its service life with thick and evident moss growth and worn shingles. Inspector John performed an on-site evaluation and explained how roofing materials and installation methods have evolved since the original installation, offering improved durability, moisture protection, and long-term performance. Project Manager Noel and his crew completed the portico roof replacement using IKO Dynasty architectural shingles in Granite Black, delivering a clean, durable finish that complements the home’s exterior. Nearly two decades after Brown Roofing first worked on the home, the updated portico roof reflects the same commitment to quality, now backed by modern materials and installation standards. From Emergency Tarp to Full Roof Replacement in Wallingford, CT

Wallingford homeowner Bruce contacted Brown Roofing after experiencing active leaks and noticing significant wear across his roof, including missing shingles and heavy streaking. Due to the severity of the leak, an emergency tarp was installed to protect the home while a full inspection was completed. Inspector Nello evaluated the roof and confirmed that the aging system required a complete replacement. After reviewing the process and material options, Bruce felt confident moving forward with Brown Roofing.

Project Manager Carlos and his crew began by removing the existing roofing materials and inspecting the underlying structure. Marybeth's Roof Replacement in Branford, CT

Branford homeowner Marybeth contacted Brown Roofing after realizing her aging roof was well past its prime. Inspector Geoffrey evaluated the roof and found heavily worn shingles that had reached the end of their service life. After reviewing the process and material options, Marybeth felt confident moving forward with a full roof replacement.

Project Manager Carlos and his crew began by removing the existing shingles and inspecting the roof structure beneath. Any damaged sections of the plywood decking were replaced with new half-inch CDX plywood to ensure a solid foundation for the new system. Ice and water shield was installed along the eaves, valleys, roof penetrations, and around the newly built cricket, followed by all-weather deck tape and Velora One synthetic underlayment. Drip edge and rake metal were installed to properly guide water off the roof and into the gutters. Small Garage, Major Upgrade: Roof Replacement in Meriden, CT

Meriden homeowner Daniel reached out to Brown Roofing when the roof on his one-car garage began to fail. What looked like a small project from the outside turned out to be a much larger structural issue once Inspector Mark evaluated the roof. The existing shingles were deteriorated, and extensive rot had compromised nearly all of the underlying wood decking.

Project Manager Bill and his crew removed the roofing materials and discovered that a full decking replacement was necessary to restore structural integrity. With the damaged wood removed, brand-new CDX plywood was installed to create a completely fresh foundation. Because of the garage’s compact size and the extent of prior damage, the roof was fully wrapped in ice and water shield membrane to provide comprehensive waterproofing across the entire surface.

The project was completed with IKO Dynasty shingles in Frostone Grey, giving the garage a clean, modern finish that complements the home. What started as a small detached structure now has a strong, properly rebuilt roofing system designed to perform reliably for years ahead.

From Tarp to Code-Compliant Roof in Oxford, CT

Oxford homeowner Linda reached out to Brown Roofing initially looking for a repair — but once Inspector Geoffrey evaluated the roof, it was clear a full replacement was the only responsible solution. The home, nestled in a heavily wooded area, had significant moss growth across the shingles and a large tarp covering the rear section, signaling long-term moisture issues and structural concerns.

Project Manager Connor and his crew began by removing the failing roofing materials and discovered widespread decking deterioration. Due to the extent of moisture damage, all of the roof decking was replaced to create a clean, structurally sound foundation. On the main roof sections, the team installed deck tape, ice and water shield, and synthetic underlayment before finishing with IKO Dynasty architectural shingles in Frostone Gray.

The rear section of the home, which had been covered by a tarp, featured a low-slope design that required a code-compliant SBS roofing system. The crew installed a two-layer SBS system (base and cap) to ensure proper waterproofing, along with new chimney flashing to eliminate future leak risks.

What began as a “repair inquiry” became a full structural reset, and now Linda’s Oxford home has a durable, modern roofing system designed to handle the wooded surroundings and keep moisture where it belongs: outside!

Derby, CT Roof Replacement with Atlantic Blue IKO Dynasty Shingles

Derby homeowner Jay, a returning Brown Roofing customer, reached out when it was time to replace the roof on his new home. The existing roof was over 20 years old, and leaks had begun forming around the dormers: a common trouble spot, especially on Cape Cod–style homes. Inspector Mat evaluated the roof and recommended a full replacement, along with a code-compliant solution for the low-slope rear section.

Project Manager Connor and his crew removed the aging roofing materials and inspected the underlying structure, addressing any compromised areas to ensure a solid foundation. The main roof was completed with IKO Dynasty architectural shingles in Atlantic Blue — a bold, eye-catching choice that adds standout curb appeal to the classic Cape design.

No More Rainy Day Stress: Clara's New Roof in West Haven, CT

West Haven homeowner Clara reached out to Brown Roofing after dealing with multiple leaks every time it rained. A closer inspection made it clear why: the existing roof was older three-tab shingles with heavy staining, algae growth, lifting tabs, and overall wear.

Inspector Darwin evaluated the roof and walked Clara through our process and material options. Once everything was reviewed, she felt confident moving forward with a full roof replacement.

To top it all off, three skylights were replaced with brand-new VELUX skylights, bringing in natural light while maintaining a watertight seal. A ridge vent was added for proper ventilation, and all flashing around roof penetrations and the chimney was carefully secured.

Project Manager Connor and his expert crew got to work by removing the existing shingles and closely inspecting the plywood foundation underneath. Any compromised sections were replaced with strong half-inch CDX plywood to ensure a solid, reliable base. Once secured, the roof was protected with ice and water shield along the eaves, valleys, and penetrations, with all seams taped to meet current building codes, followed by Velora One synthetic underlayment across the remaining surface.

Drip edge and rake metal were installed along the roof edges to properly channel water away from the fascia and into the gutters. The crew then installed IKO Dynasty shingles in the shade Driftshake, giving the home a clean, dimensional look. A new VELUX skylight was also installed, and with multiple roof penetrations present, extra care was taken to ensure each one was properly sealed with high-quality flashing.

A standout feature of this project is the beautifully reflashed stone chimney, finished with clean copper flashing that adds both durability and a sharp visual detail. With a new ridge vent system in place for proper ventilation and a full cleanup completed, Patrick and Doris’s roof is now refreshed, reliable, and ready for whatever the seasons bring.

Wolcott, CT Roof Replacement After Storm Damage & Interior Leak

Wolcott homeowner John contacted Brown Roofing after returning home during a torrential rainstorm to find water stains on the ceiling in his master bathroom. Since the issue was isolated to that area, he suspected wind may have lifted shingles and allowed water to penetrate the roof, and he was right.

Inspector Nello evaluated the roof and confirmed loose shingles along with significant granular loss, both signs that the roof was no longer holding up against the elements. After walking John through the condition of the roof and the recommended solution, he felt confident moving forward with a full replacement.

Project Manager Connor and his crew began by removing the existing roofing materials and inspecting the underlying structure. Any compromised sections were replaced with new CDX plywood to create a strong, reliable foundation. From there, the system was rebuilt with ice and water shield, sealed deck seams, and Velora One synthetic underlayment for full-surface coverage.

The roof was finished with IKO Dynasty shingles in Granite Black, along with proper ventilation and detailed flashing work around all penetrations. After a thorough cleanup, John’s home is back to looking sharp and ready to handle whatever weather comes next.

From Garage to Full Home: A Complete Roofing Refresh in North Branford, CT

North Branford homeowner Mike returned to Brown Roofing when it was time to replace the main roof on his home. After previously working with Inspector Austin on his garage roof, Mike was confident in our process and ready to move forward again, this time for the full house. His existing roof was around 15 years old and had two layers of aging shingles, making it clear that a full replacement was the best path forward.

Inspector Austin confirmed the roof had reached the end of its lifespan and walked Mike through our materials and installation process. With everything aligned, Project Manager and crew got to work.

The team removed both layers of old shingles and thoroughly inspected the roof deck. Any compromised areas were replaced with strong half-inch CDX plywood, ensuring a solid foundation for the new roofing system. Once the decking was secured, the crew installed ice and water shield along critical areas, sealed all seams per code, and applied Velora One synthetic underlayment across the remaining surface.

Drip edge and rake metal were installed to properly channel water off the roof and protect the edges. Mike selected IKO Dynasty shingles in Frostone Gray, a clean, modern color that perfectly matches his recently completed garage roof, tying the whole property together.

To complete the system, a ridge vent was installed to promote proper airflow, along with ridge cap shingles for a finished look. All flashing around roof penetrations and the chimney was carefully secured, followed by a thorough cleanup of the property.

Now, with both the garage and main home upgraded, Mike’s property has a cohesive, refreshed look and a roofing system built to last for years to come.

Middlebury, CT Roof Replacement Fixes Premature Roof Failure

Middlebury homeowner Adam reached out to Brown Roofing after noticing signs of a leak: bubbling paint on his son’s wall and water making its way down into the basement. Even more surprising? The roof was only about 8 years old, but had clear signs of failure, including missing cap shingles and little to no proper flashing.

Inspector Abdul went out to take a closer look and confirmed that the roof was not performing as it should. In addition to the visible damage, the home lacked proper ventilation, with no ridge vent in place to regulate airflow. After walking Adam through our process and materials, he felt confident moving forward with a full replacement.

Project Manager and crew got to work by removing the existing shingles and inspecting the plywood sheathing beneath. Any compromised areas were replaced with durable half-inch CDX plywood to create a strong, reliable foundation.

The new system included ice and water shield along the eaves, seams sealed with all-weather deck tape per code, and Velora One synthetic underlayment across the remaining surface. Drip edge and rake metal were installed to properly direct water away from the home.

Adam chose the rich Brownstone color from our IKO Dynasty collection, backed by The Brown Promise: our 50-year warranty. A ridge vent was added to ensure proper ventilation (something the previous roof was missing) helping to prevent future moisture issues.

A small low-slope section of the roof was upgraded with an SBS roofing system, color-matched in brown for a cohesive look. After finishing touches, including securing all flashing around roof penetrations and the chimney, and a full cleanup of the property, Adam’s roof is now performing the way it finally should.

RainDrop Gutter Guard Installation in Beacon Falls, CT

Beacon Falls homeowner Frances first worked with Brown Roofing for a full roof and gutter installation, and about a year later, she reached back out, this time for a routine gutter cleaning.

Project Manager Israel and our service crew went out to take care of the cleaning, removing built-up debris and getting everything flowing properly again. While on site, Israel noticed an opportunity to help Frances avoid the need for frequent cleanings in the future and recommended upgrading to our RainDrop® Gutter Guard system.

RainDrop® Gutter Guards are designed to provide advanced, low-maintenance protection by allowing water to flow freely through the system while keeping leaves, debris, and buildup out. Their unique design makes them compatible with both 5-inch and 6-inch gutter systems. In Frances’s case, her existing 5-inch gutters were a perfect fit.

After learning more about the long-term benefits, Frances decided to move forward with the installation. The guards were securely fitted to her existing system, creating a cleaner, more efficient solution that helps reduce maintenance and keeps water moving where it should.

Now, instead of scheduling regular cleanings, Frances can enjoy a gutter system that works smarter, giving her one less thing to worry about around the house!

Wallingford homeowner Rick reached out to Brown Roofing after noticing heavy moss buildup across his roof, especially on the lower section, where the growth had become extensive. Inspector Nello went out to assess the situation and confirmed that the roof’s condition had gone beyond maintenance and was ready for a full replacement.

After walking Rick through our process and material options, he felt confident moving forward with Brown Roofing. Project Manager and crew got to work by removing the existing roofing system and carefully inspecting the plywood sheathing beneath. Any compromised sections were replaced with strong, half-inch CDX plywood to create a solid foundation for the new roof.

To ensure long-term performance, the team installed ice and water shield along the eaves, valleys, and vulnerable areas, sealing all seams with all-weather deck tape. A high-quality synthetic underlayment was then applied across the remaining roof surface, followed by new drip edge and rake metal to properly direct water away from the home.

Rick chose IKO Dynasty shingles in Monaco Red: a bold, eye-catching color that pairs perfectly with his home’s blue-gray siding and red shutters. The new roof brings a clean, cohesive look that feels like it was always meant to be there.

To finish the system, a ridge vent was installed to promote proper attic ventilation, along with ridge cap shingles for a clean, finished appearance. Fixing a Layered Roof the Right Way in Branford, CT

Branford homeowner Joan reached out to Brown Roofing after noticing water entering her home following a heavy rainstorm. Inspector Geoffrey went out to assess the issue and quickly identified a major underlying problem: the roof had two layers of asphalt shingles installed on top of each other: a practice sometimes used in the past to cover up aging roofing systems rather than properly replacing them.

Geoffrey walked Joan through our process and explained why a full roof replacement was the best long-term solution. With a clear plan in place, Joan felt confident moving forward with Brown Roofing.

Project Manager Carlos and his expert crew began by removing both layers of old shingles to expose the roof deck. Once the sheathing was visible, they carefully inspected it for any signs of damage. Any compromised sections were replaced with strong, half-inch CDX plywood to create a solid, reliable foundation.

To protect the home moving forward, ice and water shield was installed along the eaves and other vulnerable areas, with all seams sealed using all-weather deck tape. The rest of the roof was covered with Velora One synthetic underlayment, followed by new drip edge and rake metal flashing to properly guide water away from the structure.

Joan selected IKO Dynasty shingles in the color Driftshake, giving her home a clean, updated look. A ridge vent system was installed to promote proper attic airflow, helping regulate temperature and reduce moisture buildup. Ridge cap shingles were added for a polished finish.

After completing all flashing details and a thorough cleanup of the property, Joan’s new roof is complete, built the right way from the deck up and ready for whatever the next storm brings!

Upon inspection, Szymon found clear signs of aging, including worn shingles nearing the end of their lifespan and ridge cap shingles that had previously been taped back into place. The chimney also showed signs of deterioration and needed attention.

After walking Bruce and Wendy through our process and material options, they felt confident moving forward with a full roof replacement.

Before roofing began, our masonry team completed a professional chimney repointing, restoring both the function and appearance of the structure. Any damaged sections were replaced with durable half-inch CDX plywood to ensure a strong, stable foundation.

With the decking secured, the crew installed ice and water shield along the eaves and vulnerable areas, sealed all seams with all-weather deck tape, and applied Velora One synthetic underlayment across the remaining roof surface. Drip edge and rake metal flashing were installed to properly channel water away from the home and protect the roof’s edges.

Bruce and Wendy chose IKO Dynasty shingles in Granite Black, giving the home a sharp, updated look. A ridge vent system was installed to promote proper airflow, with ridge cap shingles completing the roofline for a clean, finished appearance.

After final flashing details and a thorough cleanup, Bruce and Wendy’s new roof is complete, bringing both peace of mind and a refreshed look to their home.

Fixing a Leak and Replacing Two Layers of Roofing in Oxford, CT

Oxford homeowner Steve needed a full roof replacement for his house, so he called Brown Roofing. According to the appointment notes, the roof was about 40 years old, and Steve had lived in the home for the past 13 years. Recently, he began noticing a small leak near the wood-burning stove area and wanted to have the roof inspected.

Inspector Austin went out to perform a full inspection and quickly confirmed that the roof had reached the end of its lifespan. The roof had two layers of shingles, and the top layer was already peeling and deteriorating. Austin walked Steve through our process and material options, and he felt confident moving forward with us.

Project Manager Connor and his expert crew got to work. First, they removed both layers of old shingles and carefully inspected the underlying plywood foundation, known as the roof sheathing. Any damaged areas were removed and replaced with strong half-inch CDX plywood to create a solid base for the new roof.

Some sections of the home still had older tongue-and-groove decking, so the crew precisely cut new plywood to fit seamlessly into those areas where planks needed to be replaced.

With the sheathing secured, the crew installed ice and water shield along the eaves, extending six feet up the roof for maximum protection. They sealed all seams with all-weather deck tape in accordance with building codes and installed Velora One synthetic underlayment across the remaining surface.

Next, drip edge and rake metal flashing were installed around the roof perimeter to prevent water intrusion and ensure proper drainage into the gutter system.

Then it was time for the shingles. Steve selected IKO Dynasty shingles in the beautiful shade of Driftshake, backed by The Brown Promise: our 50-year warranty. The crew also replaced the small bay window roof sections to ensure every part of the home had the same high-quality protection.

To complete the system, a ridge vent was installed to allow warm, humid air inside the attic to escape, helping prevent moisture buildup and extending the life of the roof. Ridge cap shingles were then installed for a clean, finished appearance.

After securing all flashing around roof pipes and chimney areas and performing a thorough cleanup of the entire property, Steve’s roof was officially complete, looking fantastic and ready to keep his home safe and dry for decades to come.

From Rotted Roof Edges to a Fresh New Roof in Waterbury, CT

Waterbury homeowner Sarah needed a full roof replacement for her house, so she called Brown Roofing. In her message, she explained that the roof was aging and the gutters were failing, and she wanted someone to come take a look and provide a quote. She had seen our vans around town and decided to give us a call.

Inspector Geoffrey went out to inspect the roof and quickly found that it had seen much better days. The shingled sections were heavily worn, but the low-sloping portion of the roof was in particularly rough shape. Water intrusion had caused significant rot where the roof met the siding, and the trim in that area had deteriorated badly.

Geoffrey walked Sarah through our process and material options, and she felt confident moving forward with us.

Project Manager Bill and his expert crew got to work. They began by removing the old shingles and inspecting the underlying plywood foundation, known as the roof sheathing. Any sections that showed signs of rot or damage were removed and replaced with strong half-inch CDX plywood to create a solid base for the new roof.

Once the sheathing was secured, the crew installed ice and water shield along the eaves, extending six feet up the roof for maximum protection. All seams were sealed with all-weather deck tape in accordance with building codes, and Velora One synthetic underlayment was installed across the remaining surface.

Next, drip edge and rake metal flashing were installed around the roof perimeter to help prevent water from seeping under the shingles and to guide water safely into the gutter system.

Then it was time for the shingles. Sarah selected the beautiful shade Biscayne from our IKO Dynasty collection, backed by The Brown Promise: our 50-year warranty.

Attention then turned to the low-sloping section of the roof. That area was rebuilt using our trusted Polyglass Elastoflex roofing system, designed specifically for low-slope applications. The damaged siding and trim where the roof met the wall were also replaced with clean new white trim, restoring both the appearance and the structural integrity of the area.

Finally, the crew secured all flashing around roof penetrations and chimney areas and completed a thorough cleanup of the property.

Sarah’s roof is now officially complete, looking beautiful and built to keep her home safe, dry, and protected for many years to come.

Project Manager KC and his expert crew got to work. They began by removing the old shingles and inspecting the plywood foundation beneath them, known as the roof sheathing. Then it was time for the shingles. Joy selected the sleek shade Glacier from our IKO Dynasty collection, backed by The Brown Promise: our 50-year warranty.

To complete the roofing system, a ridge vent was installed to allow warm, humid air to escape from the attic space, helping prevent moisture buildup and extending the life of the roof. Ridge cap shingles were then installed to give the roof a clean, finished appearance.

After securing all flashing around roof penetrations and completing a thorough cleanup of the property, Joy’s new roof was officially complete, looking beautiful and ready to keep her home safe and dry for many years to come.

From Worn and Weathered to Protected with IKO Dynasty Shingles

Production Manager Bill observed moderate surface wear on the asphalt shingles, along with granule loss and dark scuffing or staining in several areas, especially through the center section of the roof. There was also leaf and debris buildup on the roof surface, which can trap moisture and contribute to premature wear over time.

The roof-to-wall transition near the siding was an area of concern, as it is more vulnerable to flashing issues and potential water intrusion. While there were no obvious missing shingles visible in the image, the roof appeared aged and worn, with early signs of deterioration, especially in the main runoff and higher-traffic areas. After evaluating the condition of the roof, the homeowner decided to move forward with a full roof replacement using IKO Dynasty shingles.

Vinyl Siding Replacement in Beacon Falls, CT
This Beacon Falls homeowner could see the signs it was time for an upgrade. The old siding was worn, slightly warped at the edges, and the color had faded unevenly over the years, with some areas noticeably darker than others. After meeting with Geoffrey and choosing ProVia Willowbrook Vinyl Siding, the project moved forward.

Production Manager Bill and his crew got to work by removing the old siding, stripping off the existing water barrier, and inspecting the plywood underneath. Once everything checked out, they installed a new protective water-resistant barrier, taped the seams, and finished the home with beautiful new ProVia Willowbrook Vinyl Siding.

The difference is stunning, and the homeowner is thrilled with the result. What was once tired and weathered now looks clean, fresh, and fully renewed.
