Complete shingles replacement and decking layer repair.

The Eaton family reached out to us looking for a quote on their roof. As soon as the dates and times were agreed upon we sent one of our guys out to take a look at the house and to help come up with a game plan.

Once we reached an agreeable quote we set up a date for our guys to go out and get the job done. Due to the house being almost 38 squares, this was going to be a very big job thus requiring a few days to complete but the Eaton family wanted the roof done as soon as possible which meant we had to change up our game plan. On the day of installation, we grabbed a few extra hands and got to work demoing. The existing shingles were in rough shape and needed to be ripped. Once they were up we could get a better look at the decking layer, after inspecting the layer we determined that we did not need to replace it aside from 2 small sheets. This saved the family some money which they could put toward other improvements.

Once the two small sections were replaced, we proceeded to tape all the seams and edges using water-sealing tape. Following that, we applied Ice and Water to the edges, valleys, and eaves of the roof. Subsequently, a layer of underlayment was installed over the remaining uncovered areas. The tape, Ice and Water, and underlayment collectively serve to protect and seal the roof against any water infiltration that may get through the shingles.

While these layers may be considered excessive for our roofs, given the exceptional craftsmanship invested in each project, it is exceedingly rare for them to develop leaks on their own. However, these layers truly prove their worth in cases of significant weather damage, such as hailstorms or fallen trees. In such situations, they act as an additional barrier, providing a safeguard in the event the shingles are compromised. Although not as durable as shingles, they buy you valuable time to call out a repair team.

After the protective layers were down we moved on to installing the shingles, this family decided on our IKO Dynasty Granite Black Shingles these matched the rest of the house perfectly and really added to the overall curb value of the home. Towards the end of the second day, it was not looking like we were going to finish, but our team pulled through and finished just in time before night fully set in. Within two days our team took care of this massive roof, always making sure to deliver the best possible product and craftsmanship for our customers. The Eaton family now has a safe, dry, and beautiful roof that is guaranteed for 50 years.

Full roof replacement on this beautiful home in Watertown, CT

This homeowner called us out to their home because they found a leak in their roof. This leak was damaging the homeowner's ceilings and causing mold to grow in the attic. Our sales representative went out to the home and discovered more issues caused by the leak. Due to the size of the leak and the outdated roof system, the homeowner opted to go with a full roof replacement.

Now that we had the green light from the homeowner we started this replacement process by taking up the old singles. Usually, we would inspect the top side of the decking layer, but because our sales representative already knew that this decking layer was tongue and groove and that it was rotting.  We ripped up the old wood and replaced it with ½ in plywood.

Next, we installed the sealing layer, which consists of 3 materials that work together to create a watertight yet breathable seal around the decking layer. We first start by taping all the seams with decking tape, then we lay down our Sealeron Ice and Water around all the eaves, rake edges, overhangs, and valleys. Lastly, we installed a synthetic underlayment over any remaining uncovered plywood.

Finally, this roof is ready for shingles, and this customer decided on our IKO Dynasty Granite Black Shingles. These shingles matched perfectly with the white trim and dark blue shutters. When installing the shingles we always start at the bottom-most corner of the roof. We do this to ensure that the shingles are properly layered and overlapping. As we make our way across and up the roof, we install flashings and boots around any openings in the roof. Then to finish off the roof we hand-nailed the ridge vent and cap shingles.

Guest Cottage Gets a Full Roof and Chimney Makeover in Litchfield, CT

Laura from Litchfield reached out to us looking for an estimate on a new roof for her cozy guest cottage. Over the years, moisture had taken a toll. Moss had built up across the roof, and there were leaks forming around the aging chimney that clearly needed some attention.

Inspector Chase visited the property and performed a detailed inspection. After evaluating the damage, he worked closely with Laura to build a plan for a full roof replacement that would not only restore the structure but enhance the look and durability of the cottage. He also recommended a full chimney rebuild, complete with new flashing and a custom-built cricket to ensure proper water runoff and long-term protection. Laura agreed it was the right call.

Our talented masonry team arrived first to carefully rebuild the chimney from the ground up, giving it a fresh start and making it ready for the next steps. Then, Project Manager Noel and his expert roofing crew came in to tackle the roof.

They began by removing the old, worn-out shingles and assessing the plywood beneath. Any sections compromised by moisture were replaced with sturdy new sheathing. Afterward, they installed a protective ice and water shield, followed by underlayment for added defense. The finishing touch? Stunning IKO Dynasty shingles in Granite Black, offering both high performance and striking curb appeal.

To wrap it all up, the team installed sleek, durable metal flashing around the new chimney, creating a watertight seal and tying the whole project together beautifully.

Korey's New Roof in Oakville, CT Is Leak-Free and Looking Sharp

Korey from Oakville had been dealing with a persistent roof leak and interior damage when he decided it was time for a real solution. He reached out to Brown Roofing, and Inspector Darwin quickly headed out to conduct a full inspection. The verdict was clear: a complete roof replacement was the best course of action.

Soon after, Project Manager Connor and his expert crew got to work. A closer look at Korey’s roof revealed significant issues, including heavy black streaks from algae, white patches of lichen, and a few shingles already out of place, which were all clear signs the roof had reached the end of its life.

The team began by carefully removing the old shingles, exposing the wooden roof decking underneath. Each section of decking was inspected thoroughly for signs of water damage, rot, or mold. Any compromised plywood was cut out and replaced with brand-new CDX plywood, custom-fit and securely nailed into place for a solid foundation.

With the decking reinforced, the crew installed a layer of synthetic underlayment: an essential waterproof barrier that shields the roof from rain, snow, and ice. Once that was in place, it was time for the final transformation: the installation of IKO Dynasty premium-laminated shingles in the sleek and stylish shade of Summit Gray.

After a few finishing touches and a complete cleanup, Korey’s roof was fully restored—strong, weather-resistant, and backed by our 50-year warranty. Now, his home is protected and looking great for years to come.

Homeowner Bob in Northfield reached out to us for a full roof replacement and a full chimney rebuild to go with it. Inspector Michael performed a full examination, and worked with Bob to develop the perfect roof for him. Project Manager Mike and his crew were tasked with the job, taking the time to ensure every part of the process was handled with care and precision.

As with all of our full replacements, the crew began by carefully removing the old shingles and protecting the property with heavy-duty tarps to catch falling debris. Once the roof was stripped down to the decking, they inspected the sheathing for damage and replaced any compromised sections with new half-inch CDX plywood. Waterproofing layers came next, starting with an ice and water shield membrane from the eaves up six feet to guard against harsh elements like rain, snow, and ice. The rest of the surface was covered with Velora One synthetic underlayment, providing a strong, breathable layer of protection. For his new shingles, Bob chose Castle Gray from the IKO Dynasty line, a bold, clean look that gave the home a fresh finish, proudly backed by our 50-year warranty.

Our expert masons also rebuilt Bob’s chimney from the ground up, ensuring it was structurally sound, properly flashed, and designed to last. With the new roof system and chimney in place, Bob’s home was ready to take on the seasons ahead in both style and strength.

After reviewing our high-quality materials, expert installation process, and industry-leading 50-year warranty, David decided to move forward with us, and we’re so glad he did!

Winsted, CT Roof Replacement Gives Homeowner Peace of Mind After Storm Damage

After experiencing significant storm damage, Winsted homeowner Diane reached out to Brown Roofing for help. Her existing roof was already showing its age, and with her insurance company recommending a full replacement, she wanted to make sure the job would be done right.

Inspector Michael visited the property to assess the damage and walk Diane through our process. He explained how our experienced crews, high-quality materials, and 50-year warranty would give her long-lasting protection and peace of mind. Confident in our team and our approach, Diane moved forward with the project.

Project Manager Jose and his skilled crew got to work, beginning with the full removal of the existing roof. Once the old shingles were stripped away, they carefully inspected the wooden decking underneath. Any damaged or weakened sections were replaced to ensure a solid foundation for the new roofing system. Diane's roof had a style of decking called tongue-and-groove. The crew carefully cut out perfectly sized pieces of wood to precisely fit into any removed sections. To protect against future storms, six feet of ice and water shield was installed along the eaves. The rest of the roof was covered with Velora One synthetic underlayment, known for its durability and weather resistance.

For the finishing touch, Diane chose IKO Dynasty shingles in Granite Black, one of our most popular colors. These shingles aren’t only stylish, but they also come with a Class 3 impact rating and a 50-year limited warranty, offering excellent protection against harsh weather. A ridge vent was added to promote healthy attic ventilation, and all roof penetrations were properly flashed to keep moisture out.

Now Diane’s home is protected by a roofing system built to stand strong through the seasons, with materials and craftsmanship she can trust!

Thomaston, CT Homeowner Upgrades to a Durable New Roof in Atlantic Blue

Gina in Thomaston reached out to Brown Roofing when it became clear her aging roof needed to be replaced. Years of exposure to harsh New England weather had caused significant moisture damage, with moss and lichen growth thriving across the surface. Inspector Tyler conducted a full inspection and noted that the shingles were no longer able to provide proper protection. Gina was then given a clear, thorough estimate from Tyler, who walked her through our premium materials, expert installation process, and long-lasting warranties. Confident in our approach, Gina decided to move forward.

Project Manager Noel and his experienced crew arrived to get the job done right. They began by removing the old shingles, revealing a type of decking known as skip sheathing, an older roofing method where wooden boards are spaced apart, traditionally used under wood shakes. While it served its purpose decades ago, modern roofing systems require a solid foundation. The crew treated the existing boards with a mold-killing solution, then installed new half-inch CDX plywood over the entire surface to create a strong, continuous base for the new roof.

Next came the underlayment system: six feet of ice and water shield along the eaves for winter protection, with all seams carefully taped to meet building code standards. Velora One synthetic underlayment was installed across the remaining roof surface for additional moisture defense. Drip edge and rake metal were placed along the perimeter to ensure clean, durable edges.

For her new shingles, Gina chose the stunning Atlantic Blue from our IKO Dynasty collection: an elegant, impact-resistant shingle backed by a 50-year limited warranty. The result is a reliable and attractive new roofing system that adds curb appeal and ensures long-term protection, ready for whatever Connecticut weather brings next.

Harwinton, CT Barn Gets a Beautiful Roof Replacement Built to Last

Tim and Debra, homeowners in Harwinton, needed a full roof replacement for their barn, so they reached out to Brown Roofing for help. Inspector Austin conducted a full inspection and found what they had suspected: the shingles were heavily worn, with several missing, and the roof was well past its prime.

After walking them through our process and the premium materials we use, Austin earned their confidence, and Tim and Debra chose to move forward with the project.

Project Manager Noel and his experienced crew got to work. Once the old shingles were removed, they uncovered a style of decking known as skip sheathing: a traditional approach that isn’t suitable for today’s heavier laminated shingles. To create a strong and stable foundation, the crew installed a full layer of half-inch CDX plywood over the entire roof.

With the new sheathing securely in place, they applied six feet of ice and water shield, sealed all seams with tape, and covered the remaining surface with Velora One synthetic underlayment for durable, long-lasting protection. Drip edge and rake metal flashing were installed for clean lines and extra defense against the elements.

For the finishing touch, Tim and Debra selected IKO Dynasty shingles in the bold shade of Granite Black, a striking contrast against the barn’s red siding. The result is a beautiful, high-performance roofing system backed by a 50-year warranty. Now their barn not only looks great, but it's protected for decades to come.

Dianna Gets Connecticut's Best with a Roof Replacement in Watertown, CT

Watertown homeowner Dianna originally reached out to Brown Roofing for a soffit repair. The soffits weren’t looking their best - and worse, mice had started sneaking inside. Inspector Coleton went out to assess the issue and quickly discovered that the real culprit was Dianna’s 22-year-old roof, which was due for a full replacement. Coleton walked her through our process and materials, and she felt confident moving forward with us, knowing we could provide a roof she could trust for the rest of her life.

Project Manager Jimmy and his expert crew got started. They removed the old shingles and inspected the plywood foundation underneath, known as the sheathing, for any signs of damage. Any sections affected by rot or mold were removed and replaced with strong ½-inch CDX plywood to create a solid, dependable base.

With the sheathing secured, the team installed ice and water shield from the eaves up six feet, sealed the seams with all-weather deck tape according to code, and laid down Velora One synthetic underlayment across the remaining surface. Drip edge and rake metal flashing were then installed around the edges to prevent water intrusion and guide rain safely into the gutters.

Next came the shingles. Dianna chose Shadow Brown from our IKO Dynasty collection: a rich, timeless shade backed by The Brown Promise: our 50-year warranty. To keep airflow healthy and moisture out, a ridge vent was installed along the roof peak, with ridge cap shingles layered on top for a clean, seamless finish.

After a few more final touches, including properly sealing flashing around all vent pipes and the chimney, and a full cleanup of the property, Dianna’s roof was officially complete. It looks beautiful, functions perfectly, and is ready to protect her home through every season ahead.

Full Roof Replacement & Detached Garage SBS Roof in New Milford, CT

New Milford homeowner William contacted Brown Roofing to replace his aging roof, which was still covered in outdated three-tab shingles that had clearly reached the end of their lifespan. Inspector Chase evaluated the roof and confirmed it was time for a full replacement, then walked William through our process and material options to ensure he felt confident moving forward.

Once the project began, the crew removed the existing roofing system and assessed the structure beneath. William’s home featured older plank decking, which no longer provided the solid foundation required for a modern roofing system. To ensure long-term performance, the crew replaced the entire decking with new CDX plywood, creating a strong, uniform base.

With the new decking in place, the roof was built out with ice and water shield along key areas, sealed seams to meet code, and Velora One synthetic underlayment across the remaining surface. Drip edge and rake metal were installed to guide water safely off the roof and protect the edges.

William selected IKO Dynasty shingles in Glacier, giving the home a clean, updated look. The system was completed with proper ventilation and detailed flashing work around all penetrations and the chimney.

In addition to the main home, the team also replaced the roof on William’s detached garage, which featured a low-slope section. This area was upgraded with a durable SBS roofing system, complete with new decking and a fully adhered base and cap layer for a smooth, watertight finish.

After final cleanup, both the home and garage are fully refreshed and built to modern standards, ready to handle whatever New England weather throws their way.

Woodbury, CT Asphalt Roof Replacement Solves Slate Roofing Issues

Woodbury homeowner Mary needed a full roof replacement after dealing with ongoing issues from her existing slate roof. Despite it being less than 10 years old. After experiencing repeated leaks and unsuccessful attempts to resolve the problem (including a full chimney rebuild), even the town building inspector confirmed the root issue: the home simply wasn’t designed to support the weight of a slate roofing system. Looking for a long-term solution, Mary called Brown Roofing.

Inspector Chase went out to evaluate the situation and walked Mary through our process and material options. With a clear path forward and confidence in a system better suited for her home, she was ready to move ahead.

Project Manager Connor and his expert crew got to work by carefully removing the existing slate roofing system and inspecting the underlying sheathing. Any damaged areas were replaced with strong half-inch CDX plywood to ensure a solid, reliable foundation moving forward.

With the structure properly prepared, the team installed ice and water shield along the eaves, sealed all seams with all-weather deck tape per building codes, and applied Velora One synthetic underlayment across the remaining roof surface. Drip edge and rake metal were installed along the edges to guide water safely into the gutter system and protect against future intrusion.

For her new roof, Mary selected GAF Timberline shingles in the warm, classic shade of Weathered Wood, a lighter, more appropriate system for the home that still delivers durability and curb appeal.

To complete the system, a ridge vent was installed to promote proper attic ventilation, and ridge cap shingles provided a clean, finished look. All flashing around roof penetrations and along the chimney was carefully secured, followed by a thorough cleanup of the property.

After dealing with years of frustration, Mary now has a roofing system that’s properly matched to her home, built to perform, built to last, and finally giving her peace of mind.

Multiple Roof Sections, One Clean Finish in Harwinton, CT

Harwinton homeowner Dan reached out to Brown Roofing after storm damage caused shingles to blow off his roof. Dan knew his roof was at least 15 years old. Inspector Mat went out to assess the situation and found that, in addition to the missing shingles, the roof was heavily worn and showing its age. After walking Dan through our process and materials, he felt confident moving forward with a full replacement.

Project Manager Carlos and his crew got to work by removing the existing roofing system and inspecting the decking beneath for any signs of damage. Any compromised areas were replaced with strong half-inch CDX plywood to ensure a solid foundation moving forward.

This home featured multiple roof sections and transitions, which required careful attention throughout the installation. Ice and water shield was applied along the eaves and extended across lower-pitched areas of the roof for added durability, while all seams were sealed with all-weather deck tape. The remaining surfaces were covered with Velora One synthetic underlayment to provide full coverage.

New drip edge and rake metal were installed along all edges to properly guide water away from the home. Dan selected IKO Dynasty shingles in Granite Black, giving the roof a sharp, cohesive look across all sections. A ridge vent system was installed to support proper airflow, with ridge cap shingles completing the roofline.

After final flashing work, detailed finishing touches, and a full cleanup, Dan’s new roof was complete! It's now built to handle the elements and ready for the years ahead.
